Long term plans? Short term fixes?

Waterford

Im easing myself back into intermittent fasting. Everything has gone to my stomach and its just ridiculous. Get my food intake back in check (no more apple slices sigh) and im starting on my workout routine tomorrow.

My advice dont do everything at once. Ive done that for years and i couldnt stick to anything. Work out your maintenance calories and then drop maybe 300 or so off it as your daily calorie intake. once you get your food right then start on the workouts. its 80% diet, 20% exercise as himself constantly reminds me

Walk 30mins a day everyday if possible, 30min home work out 3-4 times a week. Lose sugar from teas and coffee. Drop take aways. Replace all fizzy drinks with water. Should be grand with that.

Think diet is key. Cut out takeaways and crisps/snacks as much as you can and (maybe) take a smaller plate for meals if you eat big dinners. As it happens, that ass looks perfect -wouldnt want you to jeopardise that

I went from a pretty active job to just sitting around once lockdown kicked in and could notice my energy levels and motivation dropping; as well as a wee Buddha belly on the horizon

For the past month or so, even prior to starting back work, I've been walking every morning and jogging every evening; about four miles each. Made a world of difference, even to my mental health, not having to stare at the same four walls all day!

I'm even doing a hike up Slieve Donard this weekend for charity.

I'd highly recommend just getting some fresh air, for any amount of time, each day. If your mind is in the right place it's much easier to stay motivated

The plan is brilliant but the problem was that work got in the way and you lie to yourself that you're keeping to it

You actually get motivated very quickly at the weekly weight in

Bread and Tayto

( sometimes together)

My 2 big problems

That and the night time job gone since march ...a lot of steps 3 or 4 nights a week

Where the Streets Have No Name

Hi Ms R x

Little & often works for me.

I never lift heavy & haven't been in the gym since March.

I decided early in lockdown to try & at least do 'something' every weekday while I was working from home.

So at around midday I always log off & do 25 - 40 minutes of activity. I have some dumbells etc. at home but somedays it's a jog, or just some press ups or an online abs session or something. (Always stretch before/after...well...at my age you have to!!)

Shower & then lunch. The trick (I think) is to make it such a normal routine, that you don't need to motivate yourself. Make it easy. Have gym gear/bottled water ready etc.

Even if work is going shitty I find I always feel better if I've done 30 minutes.

Won't suit everybody. Others like to do pre-work or post work session,..but I'm pretty set on my routine now.

Hope they don't ship us all back to the office anytime soon

The main thing OP is calories in vs calories out

If you're taking in too many over time that your body can't burn you'll store it as fat

So many trends and diets - paleo, keto, plant based etc will get the person to lose weight then they credit the particular diet when all the diet done was get them into a calorie deficit over enough time to lose the weight

Some combo of training and dietary change with some or major emphasis on the diet depending on how deep down the covid crisp packet you've gone

And I've gone deep so no judgement #noinuendomeant

I did a intervention with myself last week as I needed to get rid of my Covid belly. So I am doing Step_tember where I walk 10k a day for the month of September. No fancy equipment needed and getting outside is so good for your mental health as well. I feel so much better after only a week. Plus if I am are out pounding the roads I am less likely to reach for the Jaffa cakes

What ever you decide stick to it, I've lost weight with weight watchers, slimming world and unislim. Got pregnant between each so pounds went on but since unislim I've kept (most of) it off.

It's 80% what goes in your mouth what's your weakness is takeaways, biscuits, chocolate? Cut back rather than cut and make changes one at time a huge change and you'll feel bad feel deprived and more likely to give up.

Exercise is good but it's 80 % food but the benefits of exercise you'll feel better and you'll be less likely to eat crap when you get in. And like said make it a habit and do it every week. Good luck it's not easy.

Oh most definitely I've been trying to lose 1/2 stone for the last year, I found it easier to lose 2 stone a few years ago. I know everything I should do butttttttttt

Small steps easier stick to and a reward every week helps.

Slimming world worked for me, introduced to me by a fellow fabster and lost over 4st about 6 years ago and have managed to keep most of it off (by plenty of exercise) even through lockdown, but like everything else, slimming world will only work if in the right frame of mind as it isn't easy but is very doable

Lost about 60 pounds during lockdown. Over 200lbs in Total.

Simplicity is key.

Im in a calorie deficit, I eat about 100g protein a day, fruit twice a day. Plenty of water and even just something as simple as 10k steps a day. Shift your arse daily. I like cycling, gym and walking the dogs.

I'm a PT. Here's my advice.

DON'T JOIN A GYM unless you can train with a regular friend who has similar goals and abilities, or if you're flush, hire a PT for at least 3 sessions per week.

Don't try to address your diet first. If you take my 'no gym' advice then try to get into a routine of 3 or 4 30 minute walks for the first couple of weeks. During this time record a food diary. Be honest. This will get you to be mindful about your food and show prevents etc.

Only after 3/4 weeks and only if you've stuck to the regular walks should you consider a gym.

Also by now, your food diary will have you mindful about food and you'll already be already addressing any poor food habits.

Good luck

I second this advice. I lost about 2 stone over lockdown doing exactly this. Try keep 10k steps a day and plenty of water and sleep. If you are using MyFitness Pal, dont just look at calorie intake, but your macros and protein intake is just as important.

As a general guide have at least 100g protein (female) and 120g protein (male). I had stock piled tins of tuna. If in the evening I hadnt hit my protein goal, I'd scoff a tin of tuna. Hitting your protein goal is more important than slightly going over your calorie limit.

Set yourself a goal and and plan to reach that goal. Start small and build from it

Diet can play a big part but if it is balanced well with exercise you will start to see a difference

For me personally, Portion the plate better. Less fats, sugar, dairy.

Walking until you lose enough weight to run(put more pressure on the bodily joints).

And as gruesome as it sounds, all bran in the mornings...

But everyone is different. Take bits of advice here and there, both professional and social. Put together what works for you.

Avoid crash diets though. Put it back as fast as you lost it.
