Masterbation abstinence

This is mainly about male masterbation respectively abstinence but feel free to contribute anything similar from a woman's point of view.

While we know there's benefit in masterbating such as stress relief, regeneration of sperm and risk reduction of prostate cancer.

There's claims that masterbation abstinence for a period of time can be beneficial such as being more productive, feeling more confident and having more control over your libido and your cock!

There's even a movement called NoFap that recommends a 3 month abstinence from masterbating but also from watching porn to fight the averse affects of porn (over)consumption.

So my question has anyone tried to go without for a while? Did you experience benefits and what were these? Do you think it gave you more control over your sword of joy and did it help you to up your sexual skills and stamina?

I have never noticed a difference.

I go through pretty big swings in my sex drive so the amount I masterbate has always varied quite a bit.

When my sex drive is low I could go weeks without and it doesn't increase my productiveness, energy or increase my desire for sex.

When my sex drive is high and I masterbate alot again no change in my day to day life, but the masterbating does very little to reduce my drive at those times.

I've gone months at a time and even up to a year and didn't find any difference.

Must be at least 2 years since I last watched porn.

If I abstain for a week it results in a crazy craving for sex and shooting a fairly big load...

So you could argue she benefited by you being more attentive when you finally had sex again (assuming she likes oral).

Surely the longer you abstain, the bigger the cravings will become and the less control over cravings you are likely to have?

Not sure if that's necessarily the case. The first week could be the hardest (no pun intended) and after that you get more and more used to having no sex/masterbation

so it might get easier.

Yeah, i'm sure after 'masterbation cold turkey' of period of time it does become easier and less likely to have cravings for sex/masterbation but the next time you do have sex or masterbate you will be back to square one again re-cravings.

I find it difficult to see where the benefits of abstaining would lay?

Assuming current masterbation levels isn't leading to any situations below:

1. Over use and damaging yourself

2. Impacting the ability to hold down a job due you're cravings

3. Impacting any social or personal relationships due to you're cravings

4. Being evicted due to the repeatitive squeeky bed noises pissing off the next door neighbours

I would say I'd have less control over the organ if I went too long without masturbation. I gave it up for a few weeks when I was younger and actually had a wet dream two weeks in. I see no benefits from abstaining despite what some studies day.

on two occasions went 8 and 10 months without sex while single and it wasn't on my mind all day everyday but I did think about it occasionally, its only natural that you would think about it when your looking for someone to meet but as for going without it while in a relationship, I'm not sure about that, I've never abstained from it while with a partner

What I've read there's a good amount of young man trying it when masterbating to porn gets out of hand and mental and maybe even physical desensitisation kicks or having problems with premature ejaculation (rush the wank before mum comes into the room syndrome) or ED in connection to porn consumption.

I'm not saying this should be a regular thing but to explore your body fully and gain more control over your little lad it could be a interesting experiment.

From the female perspective:

After having been separated and without a sexual encounter/relationship for 17 months, during which I went through phases of what I would consider healthy and unhealthy amounts of masturbation and watching porn, I met someone whom I had a relationship with for a number of months. Considering I was out of a 22 year committed relationship/marriage, the initial first "get together" with another man, though hot and horny, I couldn't/didn't orgasm with him... various reasons...I held off my first orgasm, which would have been mind blowing, as I a) wanted the pleasure to last but always knew if I hold off, then I can't cum, b) knew that I would be put off keeping going with the session as I had a thing in my head about feeling "dirty" after cumming (something that has been with me throughout my life, which I since have dealt with and no issues with anymore ).

I kept masturbating while in this relationship, but had trouble in the first few weeks with my orgasm, which had absolutely nothing to do with the man I was with or the skills he had. Our encounters were hot and sexy, he knew exactly how and where to touch me but I just couldn't get out of my head to let go. And there was an element of desensitisation in me due to masturbation. He was obviously quite upset and initially took it personally too, thinking it was him. We talked things through and I decided that I would abstain from masturbation...which I did for 3 weeks (though he found that difficult to believe, given my sex drive lol)...and lo and behold, the first orgasm with him was absolutely mind blowing, with many more to come (excuse the pun lol), and a subsequent "healthier" amount of masturbation when in a relationship...my first experience being able to talk about my sexuality openly, without judgement from another, which in fact, led me here

I do have a tendency now to abstain from masturbating when I know I will be having sex as I do find it desensitizes me to a certain extent, and having gone without an orgasm for a few days, makes those even more intense when with my partner...

Desensitisation obviously could be the biggest drawback from over masterbating but I would assume that would require a seriously unhealthy amount of times per day to desenititise yourself like that.

( P.s. @ at little lad comment slipped in there )

I can only talk from personal experience; I’m definitely a big advocate for sexual abstinence.

I feel stronger; alert, motivated, energetic the list goes on and sex is 100 times better.

Of course it could all just be in my mind but either way I know how it makes me feel. It’s a big sacrifice but even from a self control point of view it’s absolutely worth it.

Used to masturbate a lot more often, especially going through my hormonal teenage years.

I stopped watching porn because honestly Incan see it becoming addicting, and I know many people who are addicted to it.

Like anything, porn and masturbation can be great, but in moderation. To many people rely on it and don't realise.

Do it, just do it in a healthy manner

Yes I have abstained for 3 months many years ago which was a struggle initially but beneficial that I could abstain if I wish..

I found I was definitely crankier though..

So Wanking is good for my mental health!

I masturbate regularly enough now and porn does not have to be the stimulant as my sexual imagination/fantasies can be just as good.!

I never heard of No Fap but will check it out ..

Thanks OP

I regularly experiment with this. So,

Edging for a month, no ejaculation. Blue balls and lots of leakage. And I could chop down a forest with an axe.

Masturbating to orgasm daily for 365 days as an experiment in prostate health. Very successful, much healthier prostate at the end.

No porn, no masturbation for 30 days, irritable, cranky, high energy for a week then settled into being a very productive human, got loads done.

I've gone for long periods without sex(6 months) , frustrated and horny, but very productive in art, and fitness, etc.

Right now libido is low, and havnt had an orgasm in two weeks. Not much desire, either. I put it down to the miserable weather.

I wank 2 to 3 times a day, the very odd time I have missed a day, but that is very far and few between. So could not imagine going a week never mind more without having a few wanks, now I’d not need a rest to love giving oral please and the pleasure I feel from pleasing someone and feeling their body’s shudder from the results.... If I go a week or two without, and no porn...

- Gets rid of desensitisation (essential)

- My cock feels kinda renewed hahah. Feels better when I have sex again.

- That buzz of feeling horny.

If I go to a club, I find I masturbate so much more for days after.

Based in Kerry, work in Cork.

I did 11 months (didn't quite make the year) of [voluntary] celibacy because I had heard of it as a spiritual practice and I wanted to see if it would change how I felt about monogamy.

I can't say I noticed any major differences that I could directly attribute to not tapping bit I did get into a great fitness routine during covid, so maybe that had something to do with it?

It actually took me a short while to reconnect with my sexuality afterwards and I was open to the idea of monogamy by the end of it, until I met someone who was polyamorous and decided I'd just embrace that.

Yes and yes.

I pretty much dont masturbate anymore. No particular reason just over a period of time I started to just not feel the need.

I feel that sex is better for me and having not watched porn at all for about six months I can say that I have become aware of its affect on things I thought I liked while having sex and the things I am now begining to understand that really underpin my sexuality.

I've gained confidence myself sexually and my understanding of what I like and where my boundaries are.

I also had the snip last year and this has a profound effect on the way I orgasm. There's no little voice. No worry, just total abandon.

I should qualify this by saying that I have an active and fulfilling sex life and so the status quo might very well change with time.

I've gained confidence myself sexually and my understanding of what I like and where my boundaries are.

I also had the snip last year and this has a profound effect on the way I orgasm. There's no little voice. No worry, just total abandon.

I should qualify this by saying that I have an active and fulfilling sex life and so the status quo might very well change with time."

Curious to know how no porn worked out for you.

I've started to avoid watching/looking at it now, but always run into it on this site with the pics.

For one thing I've found that I have a much broader appreciation of body types. Looking at profiles doesn't feel like looking at porn for me and I honestly feel like the range of people I am attracted to has increased by a wide margin.

"I’d love to wake up one morning and have a willy

. I think I’d lie in bed all day playing with it. Then wander around waving it everywhere, twitching it for the camera, see what it’s like to wank.

I think it sounds great fun. "

Not in

In my 20’ I went a year without a wank.

Just as a challenge, I know weird.

Well, after about every 3 months I’d have a serious wet dream.

My conclusion was, the stuff is supposed to come out regularly and will

i travel all over

I largely don’t masturbate

And go long periods without porn which I find horribly addictive and terrible for erections and increasing the risk of premature ejaculation
