So.. I'm driving home yesterday evening and a song, The Closest Thing to heaven by the Kane Gang comes on the radio.. Had to pull in to deal with the wonderful memories it evoked. What does it for you? A song... A smell.. A taste..?

Smells bring back some amazing memories but there is nothing like a song to put you back in an exact time and place in an instant. Good and bad.

I find it interesting that the older I'm getting, more and more songs that I never liked are bringing fond memories and feelings

There's a place in kildare just off the old N7 called Cherryville.

Everytime I used to drive on the road it used to bring back amazing memories....A long time ago I was officially declared dead in a field there.

There’s a song that I hear every now and again that reminds me of a night club I used to go to back in 98/99. Can’t think of the songs name but the night club was a shit hole but only one around.

Somewhere in Co. Down

Certain songs remind me of a time and places and usually great memories from years ago.

Lavendar reminds me of both grandmothers.

I didn't grow up in ireland so certain noises at night or on holiday will bring me back to my childhood. Crickets, birds, thunder, etc.

on the hill NordWest of

I'm very much a smell and sound person:

Smell of the sea and call of the seagulls = living in dun laoghaire

Smell of the guinness brewery = living in D8

Sound of tram and tracks = being in my hometown

Smell of goose and pine = Christmas

Crickets and sweet smell of stone pine = Italy, Croatia, France

I could go on forever but I don't want yo bore the shit out of anyone.

So just one last one, one I really dislike:

Sweet smell of damp - yuk! = living in a basement (never again)

Smell is probably the most underestimated sense we have because it acts most of the time in the background, yet it is so powerful and much more important to our psyche than we think.
