If want to 'win the singing' there is a separate competition that caters for this: it's called the Eurovision.

Stealing is taking something that you havent got the consent to have,

A player CHOOSING to play for a team that he wants to play for is not stealing.

I have no problems with choosing the RoI over Norn Iron however i dont think players should be able to switch allegiences to RoI when it suits them, not least without some sort of compensation.

James McClean for example was all to happy to play for NI when he was young and wasnt good enough to make it into the RoI teams but when he gets his chance at Sunderland, partly thanks to the efforts of IFA he then opts for Republic. (And he's not a kid, he's 23 now- and was an adult old enough to vote so would be old enough to know where his political allegiences lie when he was representing NornIron u21)

Under the same rules England could have picked Bale before he made a full competitive game for Wales but the home nations respect each other and the rules rather than look to exploit them for their own gain. To quote FAI chief Scout - "They have a small pool of players but in the long run, the less good results they get the more the dual players will want to come to us.”

IFA funding of grassroots football is the main reason that top Northern players such as Jonny Evans,Darren Gibson and James McClean are where they are today. ALOT of money was invested in youth football in Northern Ireland particularly in religiously divided communities such as Belfast and Derry as being united in sport changes tolerance in young people towards people that they would consider different whether this is in race or religion.

Would it be wrong not to fight for what the IFA have considered an investment for the future? Is it really ethical or indeed something to be proud of when RoI scouts go to hotels prior Northern Ireland u21 games and tell players to come join them

Boynextdoor all very very valid points! And I can at times feel sorry for northern ireland fans. But on the flip side it is eAch individuals own right after the signing of the good Friday agreement to be dual passport holders. For example te application for Irish passports has rocketed in the past few months as university education is free to people in Scotland to foreign nationals!! So what we have now is ppl utiiziling a loophole to there economic advantage!

in football when that happens the other company have to pay to take you away

For a real world example, if the company has paid for you to do all manner of training to become as good as you are you are obliged/contracted to stay otherwise there are financial penalties

Fact : There are more english players playing professional football in ROI premier league( sorry for not known the proper name) than they are in the English Premier league

Fact: England doesnt have a hope in hell if beating Spain either.

Fact: There should be one international football team for irish football just like in rubgy and cricket.

Fact: England still think they created football

Fact: Football was played by the Aztecs and Incas except they used the flaming heads of there enemys as the ball.

Its is great to be respected worldwide

Worth while looking at the amount of stewards at any Irish,French,Polish,Etc,Etc and then look at the amount of stewards at the english match, feel sorry for the decent english fans to be tarred with the same brush.

Seems like Ireland is going to get the "Fair Play"award from UEFA as the Mayor of Gdansk has confirmed he will be nominating Ireland.

Every cloud has a silver lining, not as good as winning but sure we all had fun anyway!

So what happened in 66 ???? LMAO

"At least we all agree on one thing,,there needs to be one irish team,,,,

HELL NO"

that sounds a bit aggressive, I shall explain...

I was born in a little country called Northern Ireland, in the rolling hills with the wineries and beautiful sunsets....

with the rugby, I've never known a N. Irish and a republic national teams, so I am OK with the Ireland rugby team, however...

Football, I class myself as Northern Irish, having been born, bred and buttered there, I cheered our boys from the stands through good and bad, and no matter what, I am proud of them. Calls for an amalgamated team, I see as someone trying to tear my national identity away, I wont stand for it at all.

I am proud of my country, the majority of my people and my history (barring the last 40 years of violence), most of all, proud of the Green and White Army

There should be one ireland football team to represent the irish people as a whole ,the FAI and the NI equalivant should be disbanded and a new organisation setup , christ like our best(ROI) untested midfield player played with Derry City. If this island is ever going to achieve on the international stage of football we need to be united and without barriers.

where would home games be? Dublin? national Anthem? what about the soldiers song, that wont cause problems, what about when Irish president is in attendance? then you have to play irish national anthem

"Do we sing god save the queen for rugby games ? No "

true, but you play irish national anthem, which is an issue for northern Irish players, hence Irelands Call was written. yet National anthem is still played when Irish President is in attendance.

furthermore, what about few years ago when Ireland played against Italy(I think Italy) at Ravenhill, they wernt allowed to fly the union flag, god save the Queen was refused (on british territory) and they tried to play Soldiers song

We do have a football all ireland team. We play australia ever couple of years. As for the soccer maybe we should change our name to the republic of ireland and the all of a sudden popular catholic's that would have been bood and taunted but their own northern ireland fans. Its a bit to long so we will keep it as it is and welcome with open arms the good catholic players. Ole ole. Ole ole. We are all part of union jacks army, were of to play italy.
