What are active forum users opinion on Forum Lurkers?

They do not comment on the forum yet hop on threads to mail privately or indeed slate!

No issue with people reading the forums and not contributing for their own reasons but mailing privately through threads is a definite ploy to lull the recipient into opening a message that they may not normally.

Then there are those who rarely or never post except when they see a window of opportunity to shout "CLIQUE"

I have a few male stalkers that look at my profile and pics nearly every day and then try to have a go at me in the forums

I even gained another one this morning on another thread

Its all good lads if any of you are reading this

I also had a few men and women that would give me advice as to what I said wrong in the forums

They went as far as telling me what women were cool and what women were just moaning bitches.

I've messaged a few of them but amazingly they never answer so I blocked

This is spot on. No issue with someone just looking and reading everyone has their own reasons for being in here.

It's the ones who pm just to put someone down over what they said is wrong or to give abuse I have issues with. A debate is grand but normally it's done to be derogatory to the other person.

And ye the famous clique that people talk about yet no one names.

I mean how dare anyone interact with people they get to know over time and worse have a laugh with them at times on here. The flipping cheek of them

I was one of those said lurkers , I’d say I was in the site nearly 12 months before I had plucked up the courage to comment or even post a thread. At the time I wouldn’t have called the regular posters a clique, just people who knew each other better than they new this new guy.

Now I’m sure there are those that preferred I stayed a lurker lol.

I wish the lurkers would start contributing to the threads, instead of the same usual ones.

Can work the other way....the lurker that does add the odd comment or starts a thread can get nasty messages too

My name's Jimmy and I'm a lurker...??

It started years ago with reading other Irish posts and then I would move on to other countries and different themes and stories. Then different people's kinks and I was finding it was taking up my time and energy...

So now I'm getting therapy for this addiction and have got it down to teabreaks/lunch/dinner...as I haven't got feckin time or be arsed to comment..

Like some others on here - I was a member and read the forums long before posting. TBH, it's really only the last month where I started using this section of the site properly other than the meet requests section, as infrequent as it was. I have to say, at no time, has anyone been nasty or negative on my very few posts, but I think that's more to do with the fact that I try not to be a dick.

As for the clique, I can see how people looking in think it's cliquish, as did I until fairly recently. However, I did have the dawning of realisation that it's not so much a case of breaking into a clique, it's more a case of participation. Certainly, there are some who are prolific posters, and the forums do need people like that. But it also stands to reason, that people who participate, become more recogonisable, and therefore more likely to draw a response on one of their threads/responses.

Well, that makes sense in my head - god knows how it sounds to people reading it

It took me a while too to post when I first found the forums and it took a good while before anyone even replied to me on here. But I think that is pretty normal anywhere really.

I don't mind the lurkers to be honest ,even giving them the name lurkers would probably be a bit of a misnomer, I'd say they just either don't want to post anything, don't know what to say or maybe how to say it. I would often read threads sometimes can be quite serious and don't know how to respond but I don't have to because its not to me so I just leave it be. Some threads I have nothing to add to them so just like IRL I'll say nothing as I have nothing to add. Don't mind the messages either if someone read a post on the forum, can be a nice icebreaker. But if someone is nasty or wants to have a dig in private instead of saying it publicly then yeah thats a problem.

I'd have to say I'm a bit of a lurker to be fair and will post groom time to time on something that's interesting to me our humorous. I don't ever do the sneak and msg someone that way actually truth be tools I don't really send msgs at all but that's just me. I do enjoy hearing ppls different views on different topics but it sometimes gets a bit long seeing the regurgitated questions that keep coming up but that can't be helped.

It's kinda strange actually cause I was gonna post sonething last night that I was pondering on because I've been getting msgs from different ppl asking for this and that and after reading about all the crap that the females have to deal with has me second guessing any msgs from randomers. Funny thing about it is that the only ppl id trust now are the regular ppl from the forums as you can get a feel for the type of ppl they are. I mean like them or not( I'm not saying I dislike anyone now) id still trust them more from just knowing their views from their posts. And there are def lots of good decent ppl here.

So I'm just wondering.... is it all gone Pete thong or is it just me ?

As a long term user of the forums I've No problem with lurkers at all, maybe they just want to read and get the flow of things before they participate?

The forums recently in my opinion have gone downhill. The main problem being people with no or one or two verifications constantly commenting and starting new threads to try and get attention and stir up argument.

The "experts and know it alls on every subject "

I've said it before, again in my opinion, new members to fab should have a time period before being allowed to post on forums. Threads should only be allowed to be started by people with numerous verifications, maybe a minimum of 5?

Now that's said let the keyboard warriors begin??

Never said that!

The issue is Lurkers mailing negative comments or piggy-backing on threads with zero contribution.

Its a free world for people to do as, they please. But it ain't cool slating someone for airing / contributing their thoughts and views publicly, whilst said lurker critiques behind the scenes.

""Threads should only be allowed to be started by people with numerous verifications, maybe a minimum of 5?

I don't agree with this, but then, I am biased, with 5 veris.

Aside from the veris not hitting the suggested limit, here's my reasoning ....

If someone can't post in the forums, you are tying one hand behind their back. Forums are a place, not the only way/place, but definitely 'a' place, where people can build up trust or reputation. Without which, can be extremely difficult to get any sort of meets - social or otherwise. On the Ireland forum, we are particularly lucky that we are a fairly small subset of the forums. In the UK forums, there's a much larger population and density to cover a much larger area. Forums are potentially for them, an extra conduit to a conversation starter.

Now, to counter this ....

There could be a small selection of forums that are open to all, and then once a veri limit has been reached, potentially open the access to the rest of them.

just my non

also its more non inclusive. Its segregation. Not everyone will meet 5 people in a year, that would be one every 2 to 3 months, there by rendering them unable to post on forums for over a year or more. It may be a few years. Plus you have cam verified, where new people join and have 10 cam verifications in a week. Plenty on the forums over the past number of months have deleted and returned and are well verified and some people would argue with anything verified or not. My humble suggestion would be a tick like verified on your profile to indicate if you are a regular contributer to forums, this can be removed by admin if you post abusive posts, get a forum ban or if justifiably reported.

Not a keyboard warrior just my thoughts.

There's a big difference between someone that posts everyday and takes part in discussions and someone with a blank profile that hits every thread, says some shite to start an argument and fuck off off just to lurk at the fallout.

The site has decided the rules about who can post and who can't and from what I read on the forums they don't seem to be in a rush to change anything

Some people don't post veri's after one or Two in the first place so wouldn't make it into The VIP section of the forums if there was one

There were 29,453 fabbers online when i logged on. The must be about a few dozen active on the Ireland forum at the moment.. So, an awful lot of lurkers. I dont mind getting DMs as a result of a forum post, as it often initiates a more interesting chat.

How are they lurkers? Not everyone wants to express their opinion or thoughts publicly. Some prefer not to draw attention to their profile and message privately. I enjoy reading blogs and books but don't feel the need to write to the author.

Each to their own, can we get that on a badge or something.

Lurkers have feelings too

But on a serious note, I'd say the vast majority of people who join fab have never stepped a finger inside a fourm before and lurking is a way of seeing how shit works before joining in.

It's the "fear" of saying something wrong or boring or getting no replies that holds them back....but here's the key....it's all bullshit anyway so they should post if they want(do you really think someone is reading posts from this day last year?)

The question was not about those who just read the forums and don't make any comments but more about those that make a personal attack or comment to someone in a thread. You wouldnt walk into a pub, call someone a cunt and expect not to be pulled up on it.

In my case I get blank profiles giving me advise as to where I went wrong and what I should say to certain fabbers to call them out because they dont really like me ( imagine that )

I've been told not to deal with certain women and what women and couples are the only ones who are honest.

Project your shite onto someone else as I find most people are fine on here and if someone doesn't like me I wont lose any sleep over it

Broadcast and be damned/championed/agreed with/ disputed with but do it honestly and you have no regret.

Possibly the odd scary thought the following morning, if you've been on forums with alcohol but I often find that more

Some of ye may have noticed

"I was one of those said lurkers , I’d say I was in the site nearly 12 months before I had plucked up the courage to comment or even post a thread. At the time I wouldn’t have called the regular posters a clique, just people who knew each other better than they new this new guy.

Now I’m sure there are those that preferred I stayed a lurker lol. "

Me too.. I like reading but am a bit nervous about contributing.. I’m a lurker lol

Welcome to the forums.

You're not the type of lurker that causes problems and if your nervous about making a contribution just mention cake....everyone loves cake

I think everyone at some stage is a lurker. If not, then you would be commenting on every single thread just for the sake of it, even if it doesn't apply to you or your interests. I mean I might read a thread relating to dogging in wexford if I'm bored, but I'm not going to comment on it as it doesn't relate to me. I view a lot of forum threads like I do YouTube comments, a lot read them, but most only comment if it really applies to them
