So , I’m thinking of spending some hard earned money on my own coffee machine. I don’t want one of the machines that uses pods but a proper bean to cup machine. Any suggestions welcomed.

The bialetti we use, can't go wrong,you choose your own strength in ground coffee.

Not trying to sound smart but it really depends how much you are willing to spend. Some of the barista style ones cost thousands.

I have a Delonghi ESAM 4200 bean to cup machine. For a budget machine I can't fault it..... when I say budget it still costs around the 300 mark.

This model is a few years on the market now so I'm sure others can recommend other machines.

Good luck choosing.

A friend has a Gaggia model which was about €500. Don’t know if I’d stretch that far

Had a couple of Gaggia's, they make a great coffee.. Sage is a differant level though, it's all about the pressure..

coffee is an expensive rabbit hole, next thing you know you'll be buying small batch, hand roasted beans and a hand grinder...

Had a couple of Gaggia's, they make a great coffee.. Sage is a differant level though, it's all about the pressure..

coffee is an expensive rabbit hole, next thing you know you'll be buying small batch, hand roasted beans and a hand grinder...

It’s a slippery slope.

Sage (Breville) is a very good make with features that other makes don't have in some mid range consumer products.

But we are talking about 600 euro and up.

If you don't mind a machine without a coffee grinder built in, then a good starting point is Sage Bambino Plus.

I've been using a Delongi for a few years now (can't remember the exact model) and it's great. It's pretty much as convient as a pod machine just fill it with beans and water and all you need to do is press a button

Nescafe do good coffee machines...

I bought one second hand for 40 euro ... it was a steal in fairness...

Buy a grinder... got one from lidl for 12 ...

To buy a really good coffee machine bean to cup chatting 300-600 euro.... but most grind the beans same strength....

So do your homework first...

For a beginner sage barista express or pro would be a good starting point. If you could strech the budget a rocket or nuova simonelli are fantastic machines. A seperate grinder would need to be bought for these. If money was no object then the la marzocco linea mini or gs3 are some of the best home machines on the market. Cafe quality machines but the price tag matches that

Buy an AeroPress, costs nothing , non bitter coffee maker that beats shop bought machines for flavour.. theres a reason hipsters in 3fe choose the AeroPress over the expensive machines they have there.. take it from a trained barista thats trialed and tested this.. AeroPress all the way..

Aero press will require grinding beans but apparently very good.

I got a DeLonghi Esam model, can't recall model but, if you need to know, pm me.

It was £350 but I got it on Black Friday weekend for I think £170.

It's a bean to cup with a steamer/frothy thing we only use for kids Babycinos or whatever.

Combined with Lavazza Crema e Aroma beans, it's kept us happy for 2yrs now

That's after Morphy Richards 3 in 1's and Porsche Siemens coffee maker varieties!

Mate just bought one also, after having Dolce Gusto and Nespresso and he's delighted

He's using same beans. £60 on Amazon for 6Kg

Cloud picker, bailies or whitestar are all fantastic roasters. 3fe is also a good option. Freshly roasted beans work best with the sage. Try to stay away from the ones in tesco etc the taste and quality of them is terrible. And the extraction will be all over the shop in the sage with them

DeLonghi bean to coffee machines are our recommendation , from EUR 300 . Just make sure you buy decent beans at a reasonable price . I fly ours in from Holland for EUR 6/ kg .

Oh , and treat your machine against lime in a regular basis
