"Are u worried? Are u back living life relatively normally? "

Worrying is about the most useless thing you can do. All it will do is put you in an early grave.

Yes, be aware of what is happening around you, act sensibly and follow the guidelines.

We have no choice but to get back to living relatively normally, 90% of the workforce in the country is back working and we have to get on with life, this virus is going to be here for a long time and we as a race cannot hide away forever.

We will have to take precautions and live with it.

Just my opinion

What gets us is the ‘non maskers’ who ridicule the people that do!

Are they trying to make themselves feel better for not wearing one? Just don’t get the issue...

If we want to be safe then why antagonise or make fun of users?

The Road to Nowhere

I'm not worried for me. But more so for the likes of my dad.

I'm definitely more aware of things such as people not respecting social distancing or sanitising their hands. Even just today, I could feel myself getting a lil anxious because people were just EVERYWHERE and none of them practicing social distancing (like sorry I can't take a minute to pick out what sandwich I'd like for my lunch)

It's not an ideal situation and sometimes I think to myself 'how the fuck are we here?' But we have to get on with it. Life must go on and all that jazz.

Sorry, probably not a very accurate statement, my meaning was most of the businesses have opened again.

I completely understand that an awful lot of people have lost their jobs and some will never get them back. I wasn't trying to make light of that situation.

I wouldnt be overly worried. I practically did fuck all for 3.5 months and dread to think we could go back there. On SD. It doesn't come naturally. If you're out and about your just going to do what u have 2 do, not think oh I have to be 2m away from each tom dick and harry. The spike in new cases is caused by something and that has to be eradicated. I read online if we get to 100 cases a day, we could be going back to phase 2. That would be some disaster. There was always going to be a rise but the R rate is the problem

Am I worried? For me personally, not hugely. I have mild asthma so might be at risk of getting seriously ill, but sure I have to die of something eventually. I take reasonable precautions and live in an area of low incidence with low population density.

I worry for my kids (late teens early twenties) and how it's affecting them in terms of not being able to socialise with their peers and continue their education. It's not healthy or normal for young people to live like this. I also worry for them in terms of employment prospects as we are now entering a recession which will probably bring us back to something like the 80s, Ireland was a miserable shithole back then, and this will be a global recession, so unlike me and my generation, emigration won't be an escape valve.

Yeah I am worried. I think I am more worried now than at any point previously.

It was easy enough when I didnt have to go outside much and wasn't expected in the office.

Also when the whole country was in it together. Now everything seems so much messier and fractured.

I view the rise in numbers with more dread this time than the first time.

Maybe not as bad but 26,000 cases and 1800 dead is bad enough is all honesty

Worldwide numbers are astronomical, before it's over well over a million lives will be lost. I don't know how much more bad that can be

Think about it not claiming conspiracy but the facts were adjusted still are and will be. I'm a wolf not a sheep so unfortunately I wont allow myself to be controlled by an establishment we actually chose to vote out in the first place.

A hell of a lot of sceptical topics happening across the world we are all oblivious to because of Covid. You were also on about us not having Sovereignty, your right we don't as we not ruled by a Sovereign. I presume what you meant was Independence from the EU.

Not trying to get into a big debate, it's just that when your making a point, you obviously feel strongly about, things like that let smartarses like me pick holes.

OK I think I have this figured out.

So Covid is actually the Flu (let's ignore colds cause as I am sure you know they are completely different)

So there isn't really a pandemic.

The government have told vulnerable people to isolate to prevent getting the flu.

And this is their plan to depopulate(again im assuming you know the over 65s aren't really our major issue with current population increases, not too many of them in the old maternity wards these days)

Is that about it? Man ima go shave and knit a heylookboobs jumper

Not too worried if I'm honest if everyone does their part we will reduce the spread. The virus is here for life until a vaccine is found. In that we have to adapt too our new lives I know its hard. My main worry atm on here is the amount of people looking for meets its all over the forums. Crazy stuff

Let's take that covid is real! I do btw

... not to say that some figures haven't been fudged in certain places, deaths that may not be covid going down as covid, people dying that are already seriously ill and the rest if us thinking we're in same position etc

Some govs, elite types may want to capitalise on situation

But let's speculate.. we all know that social distancing is pretty much non existent outside of shopping, queuing situations, at least to the extent that the guides say it should be

People are out drinking, house parties, working out and so on and the spike hasn't been massive though potentially worrying

My point is that the population of the country on fab is miniscule

If two peeps on fab or couple arrange a meet the likelihood of someone having it and also transferring it are super low id imagine

Surely much lower than a percentage no??

I'm not mathematically talented so open to critique but am I wrong?

While I appreciate the thought process on this, I'll not get into specifics.

Best case scenario. You're correct, and nothing changes for you personally, or for anyone else.

Worst case scenario. Someone dies.

I genuinely don't mean to overemphasise.

But, I'll ask a question...

Would you wear a condom with a stranger?

And, while I'll not assume, if so, then why would you not wear a mask?

I'll reiterate.

Best case scenario, you wearing a mask, stops the curve, saves a life etc.

Worst case, you wore a mask.

Am I missing something here?

Are they trying to make themselves feel better for not wearing one? Just don’t get the issue...

I have seen this posted online numerous times and i investigated it.

The death rate in ireland for last 3 months of 2016, 2017 & 2018 is pretty much the same.

The death rate in ireland for last 3 month of 2019 is so much higher.

This is 100% fact, you can check RIP.ie for the figures. Its about 1000 deaths more for that period of time compared to the previous 3 years.

What killed this extra 1000 people compared to previous years thats what i want to know?

Worried after hearing 1 person got off a flight in Dublin, of which 4 people on it had CV19. That person went home, passed it to her brother, who then went to a party down south west direction, which was apparently a bit of an organised and now 56 people are positive from the 1 person off the plane!

Hoping it wasn't Fab related party.

And there has been a lot of ‘webcam’ party’s recently (even over the weekend!

Some people can be asymptomatic so they won’t know themselves....

It’s totally irresponsible of people to carry on as if it’s all over, we’re sickened by what we’ve come across on here today (status and veris). It’s making us re-think our position on here now.

There are too many people in both our families who are vulnerable, we just can’t risk it for their sakes

If that's true 56 people aren't positive because of 1 person off a plane.

56 people are positive because of her brother who went to a fucking party, and all the rest who went to a party.

Dont get me wrong I think travel should be restricted way more... but its turning into a very easy scapegoat for people who want to ignore the guidlines. Usual whataboutery.

I checked the cso figures (rip.ie isn't a reliable statistic source). If you compare the Q4 figures of the last 5 years, there's a difference of 500 comparing Q4-2019 to Q4 of earlier years. So that's half of what you're pushing out there.

Also looked at the cause of deaths there's no significant increase of those with respiratory problems.

I don't know what a healthy variance of those figures are but there's not enough there to draw any weird covid-19 conclusions.

I think we should all be worried not Just for ourselves but others around us. We all gotta take responsibility, just cause yourself might be fit and healthy others around ain't so fortunate. Wearing masks is not potentially protecting me its others around and I've heard people say I hate wearing a mask a health expect said if you don't like wearing a mask you will hate a ventilator.

Tony Hoolahan referenced RIP.ie only last month as reference to the death rate. He used it to reference how May and June death rate this year was the same as 2019.

If its good enough for the Chief Medical officer at the time, that's good enough for me.

Can you point me to the exact CSO location for Deaths for Q4 in 2019

I'm not worried for myself but for other people around me, especially my family and at risk groups I come in contact with.

I work in many different environments everyday, sometimes an office, sometimes a nursing home, sometimes in people's houses so I wear a mask and wash my hands and if I see something I'm not happy with I'll walk away.

But I am guilty of thinking that if I know someone then I feel like thats it's safe but when I meet a stranger I'm way more paranoid....I know that's not how covid works but it's human nature and I have to remind myself of that often

I can see why some would be worried but if u stop and think about every little thing u do, you would become extremely paranoid. I'm working, I'm meeting up with a few for drinks on the weekend (outdoors), I wear a mask in shops. Life has to resume and the virus is still with us. The choice is yours if you lock yourself indoors or get out and about. I'll finish by saying most stuck to the rules for months but it was a struggle. Living like that is not normal and not good for ones mental health. It's great with sport etc, people are getting a bit of enjoyment back.

The so called second wave is inevitable as soon as restrictions are eased. All we're doing is postponing it.

If you have an underlying condition or are 50+ of years or a healthcare frontline worker etc. you most likely have a different perspective. Now I'm not saying we all should lock ourselves into the cupboard but we can only win the battle when we work together as a society. Unfortunately that means sacrifices for everyone.

This virus was never gone. Its here all the time. The interesting part is what happens come October etc when we get the normal flu mixed with it.

The so called second wave is inevitable as soon as restrictions are eased. All we're doing is postponing it.

As you say, Covid is here now and it's not going away. That's the reality. We either move on with it or keep ourselves shacked up in fear.

I know what I want.

We have to move on, we cant live in fear.

absolutely my thinking also but some are so fearfull they're driving themselves to paranoia.

I guess it's very easy to be bolshie and blasé about it when you perceive zero risk to yourself and either don't know or don't care about more vulnerable.

"No shite here, just spoke to a guy on steering committee for government and all information coming back from hospitals is that we will have, and they are now readying themselves for second wave. It's nothing to do with not caring, it's about the realization that at some point we're gonna have to deal with it. Life needs to go on, people need to get back to work fulltime, we're social animals and need social events for our sanity.

Honestly, the restrictions haven't affected me too much at all so keeping them in place makes very little odds to me.

It should be up to the individual now how they want to move forward with Covid. If you want to wear a mask every time you're out then go for it, not anybody else's business. If you want to go to the pub for a few hours, then go.

We know Covid is here so we can all make our own risk assessments

spot on. Its upto yourself as an individual what you do and dont do. Let's face it, if there is no vaccine you could be living in fear for a long time.

There won't be a vaccine either. I'd be highly suspicious of any vaccine that comes out any time soon.

SARS has been around for 18 years now and they still haven't a vaccine, and like the common cold, SARS is also a coronavirus, so why would anyone believe they'll have a vaccine for Covid-19 in the next few years?

As I said, the reality is that we now have to live with Covid-19, we can move on with an awareness of it or we can remain afraid to live our lives because of it.

in fairness they kinda just gave up on the Sars vaccine as it just disappeared, no money in a Vaccine for a Virus that's gone.

But, i do agree with everything you said, we need to learn to live with this.

Ah yeah I know SARS isn't an issue nowadays, my point was that we never developed a vaccine for a corona virus, possibly because we didn't really need to so yeah, that point was a bit pointless.

But still, I have suspicions about a vaccine developed in the space of a year.

I'll let the guinea pigs try it out first and give it a few years to see how it all unfolds
