Heard today on radio that the Samaritans Ireland say they receive a call every 49 seconds as they appeal for mental health supports.

With all the contact we have with people and ways to keep in touch and support each other , hard to think people can't reach out to the ones they love.

Somewhere in Co. Down

Sometimes it's easier to talk to strangers tho than to those closest to you. A lot of people feel embarrassed talking to the people they love especially if they are struggling they don't want to burden them.

It's is great that the samaritans are there for people when they need it.

Sometimes the people closest to you can be part of the problem, also, it's very unlikely they will offer an unbiased perspective even with the best will in the world.

North West, Outer Letterkenny area

Its awful and so many people are on new medications pre lockdown and no clinics too in a lot of areas. Sometimes the harshest comments can come from those closest to you, you always say the wrong thing to those you care about most because of familiarity. Great service to have for people in bother in times like this.

With mental illness it's really difficult for people to talk about what they are going through, they have a lot going on and just for them to be brave enough to talk to a stranger on the phone can be a really big step in their road to recovery. Sometimes they can feel judged or even embarrassed to tell someone they love.

I'd be more concerned for the ones that feel low and aren't reaching out for help.
