His music was a great compliment to the films he composed scores for, spagetti westerns were the highlight

Woke up to a text from my mate telling me he'd died.

The Ecstasy of Gold is my all time favourite piece of music

I couldn't tell you the amount of times I've cried tears of pure joy listening to it. It's not all the time, but every now and then it takes me somewhere else. It's what I imagine a spiritual experience to be. I love it.

He always played it twice during every concert in Ireland and i remember sitting at the front of stage with the music just washing over me every time

Hope you got to see him live at least once in Ireland

Just listened to it there again with headphones. It was a bit more poignant this time.

No, the closest I've got to hear it live was seeing Metallica. It's been their intro since the 80's.

I always said if I won the lotto one of the things I'd do first would try to get Ennio and a full orchestra for a private performance.

So much for that

Brilliant horror film, I had actually forgotten that he did that one too.

Spaghetti westerns and the mission would be my favourites.

He was always overlooked for Oscars which was very harsh.

RIP

Ennio Morricone was a man from another era, literally.

A man of the 900 who drew deep inspiration from the 800, from classical and orchestral music.

Dozens of scenes from the cinema, from the most famous films, would be nothing without the Maestro's soundtrack.

It is almost impossible to listen to his masterpieces without goosebumps.

His music has comes out from the cinema very early, being sacked several times in various types of advertising and commercials all over the world.

The short jingles are iconic and many people hum and whistle them without even knowing the author.

When a director literally WRITES a scene because the actions of the actors correspond to the music, it is a more unique than rare thing that speaks for itself.

It will be greatly missed, but we can be happy that he left so much behind him, and it was a rare example to follow.
