% of Couples swinging?

Any information on, or broad rule of thumb for, the number of couples that swing or consider themselves open to the experience (married or otherwise, by age group, nationality etc.)?

The University of Sydney has surely published its findings by now?!

The large number of hot early thirties to late forties married couples in our neighborhood has us very curious. How niche is the scene? How many keep it as a fantasy without acting on it? Is there a lingering sexual conservatism and/or repression in Ireland in comparison to other countries?

Our own ‘research’ is confined to Fab search of nearby couples which is quite disappointing in this regard.

If fab is anything to go by, it's miniscule

"If fab is anything to go by, it's miniscule"

Fab should publish an annual, or even quarterly, report similar to Daft on ‘market place’ activity and trends.

The number is very small. Very few people would be able to share their partners. Less than 1% I'd guess. You're never going to get an accurate poll as people aren't likely to answer accurately even if you asked them. Fab isn't going to release stats as discretion is highly valued here.

The report with glossy graphs and headline grabbing stats was tongue in cheek but I don’t see how privacy would be compromised, not unlike medical stats across a population or area.

Much lower than the 1% if fab the ultimate test and based on number of couples in our area.

I’d imagine you’d get the same level of accuracy in a confidential sexual health survey on answers to questions on swinging as you would on STIs or infidelity etc.? Obviously sample size is important. We stand to be corrected if people have different perspective on this however.

Because of an incident a number of years ago a few close friends found out that we are on the scene. We discovered from that it's mostly the men ask questions about it but the ladies didn't. To our shock it's been the men who said they couldn't bare the thought of their wives/GF's being with someone else. We have bumped into a few friends and work colleagues here, no neighbours ..lol, so this is where we get our experience from really. We discovered that there is a high percentage of people (couples/men/ladies) trying this scene out, but it's very few who actually stick with it.

Interesting responses. Our curiosity and fantasy about other couples is always there and we are maybe hypersensitive to any mention.

We were prompted to raise topic on the forum by a message yesterday from a couple nearby - alas they had no verifications, one pic, 3 words in profile, a grand total of 5 words across 2 messages and no manners. Got us thinking again about local couples though.

Maybe you need to cast your net a little further.... to include Limerick maybe

Get you completely though about couples profiles. Many are terrible, no effort and zero effort put in to messaging. Many complain about the single guys but they win hands down with the effort/humour/personality that some (not all) of them put in to their profiles and messaging - Mrs.

We second that, plus single guys don't create drama as some couples do with jealousy and insecurities.

As you mention single guys, it appears there is more single male profiles on here within a 1 mile radius than there are streets or parks, a veritable proliferation. Also an abundance of TV/TS profiles locally, but very few couples.

The low number of Swinger Couples locally just surprises us based on the large numbers (of hot and fit couples) and maybe a new societal norm whereby those born in ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s are likely to have had multiple sexual partners prior to marriage/ settling and have had easy access to visual expression of any fantasy widely available since the noughties.

Maybe they’re just not on fab or have location muted

If you go by fab there's probably less than 100 active couples in the whole of Ireland, in a population heading on for 6 million.. A miniscule percentage

The CSO tell us that there are roughly 400,000 married couples where one spouse is between ages of 30 to 49 incl. Picking this range as it ties with our personal preferences and relates to type of ‘real world’ couples in our locality that sparked our curiosity. We estimate that there are maybe 100 couples on fab in Cork in this age range that we would consider active (based on activity and verifications). Taking it that Cork is approx 10% of population and land area of the state, reflecting the national urban-rural split, there are possibly 1,000 of these couples nationally. That would make it 1 in 400 or 0.25% of married couples 30-49 active on fab in the south. The north was once considered more liberal but possibly a role reversal there so possibly the aggregated % on the island would be a little lower.

Based on the above, if say a primary school of 16 classes (2 per year) with 30 kids per class and parents had an average of just 1.2 children attending that school, there would be just one set of parents at the school gate who are swingers (on fab)... very lonely!

Very crude unscientific basis for an assessment but open to hearing any better suggestions, approximations or guesses!

Just a tad. Realisation that most likely the couples locally we’re fantasising about are extremely unlikely to be interested.
