"I went to my local rescue centre and brought my nephew and neice with me. We found a collie cross who was a bit shy but loved the little kids and wasnt the least bit aggresive. So took him home and never looked back. The poor thing had been beaten by previous owner , so for the first week he was very nervous and peed and shit all over the house . But he soon got out of the habit and now 2 years later,he is brilliant. Barks whenever anyone comes near the house and when out walking licks the hell out of everyone.Best thing I ever done was to get a rescue. Might even get another one. "

"Dogs are a lovely addition to the family but kids can be quite fickle about looking after them. Our kids begged and begged and begged for one. It took four years of pleading and assuring us how they would look after it and feed it. We got a rescue dog and they love him. But the novelty of walking it and feeding it quickly wore off. We got a Golden Irish which is a cross between a Red Setter and a Golden Retriever. He's as daft as a brush and endless ball of energy but great with kids and a loveable rogue. " I have a red setter and a golden retriever, I can see why hes a ball of energy , I was only made aware of the breed last year when i seen a friend with a pup, very impressive looking dogs

Unfortunately my husband got him when we separated. Kids don't get to see their beloved pet as often as they would like to. But they are a wonderful breed for kids. So loveable and patient with kids dragging out of them.

"Rescue dogs are the best and generally crave attention Remember they need walked every day, rain or sunshine, every day and you need to be home to feed them as well, so no sneaky nights away without organising childcare, oops I mean doggy care Shih Tzu’s are non shedding, have a couple of them and they’re generally quite well tempered" I'll take a look in my local rescue centre.

"My daughter is begging me for a dog. She has always wanted one but I have always said no as we wouldn't have the time to train it. Now though we technically do but the problem is that I'll eventually have to go back to work and her school. The dog would be alone for the best part of the day. Is there any other pets that don't take much effort to look after and are okay to be left alone ? No a goldfish lol. Tried that already . If I were to get a dog what breed would you recommend that would be easy to look after and not to much energy lol" You can always have regular visits to the zoo or fota wildlife all the taking care of them part is already taken care of all you need to do is visit them

"Maybe certain dogs do not need much exercise but they all need to pee so not suitable if going to be left inside for long spells. Better off with a cat or hamster. This is so true " But dogs get trained not to pee in the house At the start of your life together they might pee in the house to mark their territory or because their nervous or not used to going outside. However they learn not to especially if they are rescue dogs as they will have lived with people before. My dog barks every morning to go out the back garden and during the day will wait at the door and bark Last thing at night they go out and then for up to 8 hours they're fine Don't let that put you off

If you are not fully on board with getting one op then don't. I wouldn't be without my dogs all rescues in one form or another. But if you are already having doubts then go for something else that is easier looked after .

" 'A dog is for life and not just for Corona-mess' springs to mind.... Get a kitten or even two, they're cuddly, playful easy enough to litter tray train and don't mind a few hours a day on their own. Also you don't have to walk them after a full days work when it's pissing rain outside. " A dog is not just for Christmas...properly marinated you'd easily get Easter out of it

Also guniea pigs make great pets but you need to have 2 instead of one as they get lonely and are a social animal. Hamsters and that are handy to as they need very little looking after. " Thanks for all the info. I've contacted my local pound n day r sedin some1 out 2 d house to make sure we r suitable. Could b a while b4 some1 can come out.

"Apart from my few tarantulas I have a family of baby spiders living on one of my windows. I thought the egg sack was dead a few weeks ago and then BOOM!!! 16 baby spiders. They're garden spiders so I don't know how the mam layed an egg sack indoors but when they get a little bigger I'll be moving the outside. I'm enjoying looking out for them during the lockdown. I leave fresh water out for them every few days." My worst nightmare
