"Don’t get me wrong I observe and follow the governments guidelines but when are people going to say it’s ok to meet?" No. The easing of the lock down will not include a relaxation of social distancing, not until there is a vaccine

"There's a good chance there may never be a vaccine, and we will just have to live with it, at a level that the healthcare system can deal with. It's not as though the entire population is going to give up sex outside relationships, so it's up to everyone to decide for themselves, given their own circumstances. Sex and human touch are important to our wellbeing (not to mention the survival of our species!)" Finally a sensible comment.

" It's very easy for people in a relationship to say don't meet others for sex, quite a different prospect for singles, some of whom may have little other physical touch. Those with partners and children are the lucky ones

"This will all blow over. It’s like flooding it’s a huge deal when it’s happing but after it’s gone it’s forgot in no time. By the time the vaccine comes the infection rate will be so low in the community that people will not take it anyway." We do tend to have short memories, I think it's essential to carrying on. Otherwise we would end up too paranoid to leave our homes

We will be paying for it in our taxes, there will be a lot more unemployment than before, house prices will fall, consumer confidence is rock bottom, education will be limited and employment of parents will be hard hit so families will really struggle. The enhanced unemployment payments cant continue or we will be bankrupted. A vaccine WILL make a differenve. There is a mountain to climb before this will be forgotton.

The recession won't be forgotten, nor the impact on people's mental health, but the threat of disease will. And no vaccine has ever been approved for a coronavirus, so its probably best not to base our optimism around it. The human race will survive.

"Don’t get me wrong I observe and follow the governments guidelines but when are people going to say it’s ok to meet?" I reckon people outside of Dublin should be OK to meet others as long as they are isolating themselves as much as possible.. Not so sure about Dublin and its environs. Bulk of the cases are there I'd leave meeting strangers off the Internet for a long time if I lived there

Could be hampered i agree but like aids once people become comfortable around the threat of infection they will let their defences slip Its human nature to crave comfort in each others arms the same as we take enjoyment for group or single meets with others, people will take what they can get to satisfy their own needs while exercising a little more restraint than say eight weeks ago but sooner rather than later they will resume life as we were used to it

We are over the peak, and restrictions are lifting.. so i wouldnt be worrying about worse to come (with the exception of the coming deep recession). "This opening up of the lockdown will be a demonstration of risk assessment. As with risk assessment it is not as black and white as many think and would like to believe either. Some will be very adversed to the risk others less so. Those who think the vaccine is the simple solution might need to understand more about vaccines. They are not fool proof in prevention and they have other side effects too, another risks to weigh up." We have a roadmap to opening up the lockdown. Its fairly black and white. Also - a vaccine wont get past the human trials if it isnt safe and doesnt work. Double blind testing of many many people is an excellent way of testing effectiveness and safety.

I would like to have your optimism regarding the launch of a vaccine assuming it has passed double blind studies and found to be safe but so many drugs have been removed from market due to dangerous side effects with class actions following and billions paid in compensation to the families of the dead victims. I recall a blood thinner was in trial and the company had an acceptable level of death associated with the product and it was approved by the FDA for market launch. I suppose the one thing that is common in life is that there is risk in everything we do or don't do. L

"Sure there can be very rare bad reactions... but the are VERY rare because if they werent then someone would have reacted in the trials. They look at risk vs reward and if something saves thousands of lives then a one in a million bad reaction is tolerated. " I see your point, but if only they could keep it to one in a million. Merck settled with 27000 individual cases to the tune of $4.85billion for a dodgy drug. My concern is that they will rush this through as the pressure mounts. The world is corrupt at every level. The road map could easily change as will many still unthought of issues, so not a black and white as some may think. It could revert back very quickly if a second wave started. It is a way of testing but and as you say it needs to pass trials and effectiveness can easily be fudged in order to get people Bach working to boost economy and try to minimise the damage. Ultimately people will need to get out and live again vaccine or not and asses the risks associated with it. Personal immunity is my preference than another vaccine for many reasons and that also has a risk.

If what I describe does happen and we had a situation where we had no new cases for 14 days and everyone has either recovered or died then we would be free it, correct?

"I have a question. What happens when or if we get to a stage when we have had no new cases for 14 days? With or without a vaccine. Does that not mean we are free of it? No.. because there will still be existing people fighting the virus who coild pass it on and begin a second wave. We will be free of it when the last covid positive person either dies or whose immune systen has eradicated the virus. And realistically how long will someone fight it before they recover or die? A number of months i believe.Yea but do you have any actual specifics? Like it seems extreme that it would take more than a 4 weeks. " In theory yes, however if someone has a sore throat but isn't too sick, what are the chances they'll say nothing and carry on working and socialising rather than get tested? It looks as if a lot of people get relatively mild symptoms, that's part of the reason it's so easily spread.

Doesnt matter if its easy to spread or not. Theres no cases, virus free as such. Correct?

Since our borders are open, we cannot be guaranteed free of it, certainly not when our European neighbours have it.

Nothing in life is guaranteed. Nothing is 100%. " I can't imagine pandemic experts declaring us free of the disease on the first day of no cases. My personal opinion is that, contrary to making rational choices as we like to think, humans decide on their preferred course of action, then set about finding the justification for it.

"Well I don't see any justification sitting at home afraid of a virus with low or no current cases. The majority of the country (with some notable exceptions) followed the experts advice and did as advised with the result that cases are declining. But we cannot stay at home or not 'interact' for indefinitely. Will this mean that cases might increase, possibly, but that is in the future. People should not be 'judged' if they begin to meet again over the next few months. They are not doing anything wrong. If an a person(s) is does. not feel comfortable or is scared of getting Covid than it is there choice to stay at home while others move on." Exactly

Oh I agree totally, life goes on, we have to live with the virus whether the time comes (or not) that it is under our control. We make our choices and accept the consequences, as with all our decisions.

"It’s risky but eventually people will have enough And start meeting, who knows maybe the virus will weaken a lot and the social distance will go down to 1meter and this has a knock on effect on things such as schools and pubs Thats not how it works.. The "streangh" of a virus has no bearing on how close you have to be to someone to risk catching it. " It's one metre in France, maybe they dont spit when they talk

"You mean can the same person be reinfected after recovering? It is believed not, but its not yet known how long this protection lasts." This is what I believe makes it far less a risk than many current activities which we do daily which kill more people and yet most don't consider the risks involved. A bit like wearing a seat belt makes a driver feel safer and so takes higher risks than what he would do if he had no seat belt.

"Don’t get me wrong I observe and follow the governments guidelines but when are people going to say it’s ok to meet?" If you follow the government's guidelines, then it's not OK to meet until the government say so.

I do and will continue to harshly judge people who meet for sex while social distancing is in place. This is not a situation where we can use our own discretion. None of us can make a judgement call that even comes close to being as informed or accurate as the government's team of experts. It's a public health issue, where each of us is responsible for doing what we can to keep the most vulnerable people in society safe, based on the expert advice given. If someone thinks their need to fuck is more important than that, they (in my opinion) are selfish, unintelligent, and arrogant.

"This will all blow over. It’s like flooding it’s a huge deal when it’s happing but after it’s gone it’s forgot in no time. By the time the vaccine comes the infection rate will be so low in the community that people will not take it anyway." I've not heard a peep from the anti vax mob....yet....

"Confirmed cases today 64, % of passing it on now stands at less than 1 but ill take it that we double the number that have it today, thats 126 in a population of 4.9 million that is 1 in 38000 people have the virous ,it will come down to how fast ,1 you can get a test going forward and 2 how fast that result comes back ,needs to be less than 72 hours total , and then the normal joe soup who has no illness ,going by maths and thats what the HSE and govermeant are going by ,it will be fairly safe to meet ,at that stage you will have more of a chance of picking up an STD than covid19 " Yes, we will be relying on the HSE to come up trumps in terms of rapid turnaround testing and tracing, I'll try to have faith.

It will be a higher number than that who are infected. Possibly a lot higher.

"Let's face it the government won't come out saying you can fuck around again. At the same time social distancing won't go away until Covid-19 goes away. So we all will have to make our own risk assessment and decision. I know already I'm not gonna wait until vaccine day until I see, touch, taste and ride a cock again. " Bravo

"In fairness I like most have been in situations over the last 8 weeks where people would lick your face to get to the raspberries a few seconds quicker. When the R rate is below 0.5 people will make their own informed choices on meeting. One on one or couples meets will be back soon enough I'd say but parties could be a disaster. Really hard to make an informed choice until the daily numbers are consistently much lower than they are now" Social distancing hasn't been really adhered too once inside the stores. It is in the queues outside .
