Does anyone know what the story/problem is? Shane Ross said something 'them opening up won't happen any time soon'.

Not that I'm a massive fan of the nct 'service' but it was once 'all' about road safety.

Now they don't do it anymore because of covid-19. Sure you hand in your car, the nct fella checks it and then you pick it up again. No problem in social distancing there. Do I miss something?

The backlog will be huge. Wait until the car insurances refuse to play when accidents occur and nct is out of date.

Before this all kicked off most of the centres weren't capable of carrying out the test to its fullest anyway, as there was an issue with the lifts.

There is also a problem with the lifting jacks in most of NCT centres. So if your NCT is out of date, theres no problem if you get stopped by guards.

Yeah it seems nuts to me. Even if they just took half the cars they usually do, it'd still be something.

So are they using the covid-19 as an excuse because they can't get their lift problem sorted?

I'm not concerned about the guards stopping me (got away with out of date nct and motortax few years ago by just playing the naive innocent blonde ), my concern is insurance, those gangsters use every excuse to refuse to pay.

Getting new lifts in every NCT centre is a massive, costly job! It wasn't done before this all started

Everything in Ireland is costly and takes forever. It was 85 lifts to be repaired, estimated 2 days of repair per lift. Sure the Chinese and the Germans build an emergency hospital in 3 month, we should be able to get those lifts sorted.

Anyway Shane Ross mentioned the nct and the driving tests in the one sentence, not happening any soon. While I get the driving test covid-19 social distancing problem, I just can't see where it applies with nct.

The issue is the test technicians getting in and out of the car doing checks such as breaks, lights, seat belts, etc if there was a case of covid in some test centres it would spread very quick and fast as cars could be contaminated,so shutting the test centres reduces the risk of spreading the virus

Desinfect the car at the end of the nct, problem solved.

Do not insert gear stick or handbrake into bodily orifice before doing nct

Monday tests are back in action. However I'd say there's some catch to it. I'd imagine the tests will be back dated to the last day of your test was up.

Say mine was due in the end of March and I get my test now it would back dated.

Saying that I know someone who got fined for having no NCT but he had a booking and had proof but still he got fined. Now it was out since February so I dunno if it was harsh on the lad or what..

Your not getting 3 months free

Bet you they back date it to day it originally expired like the NCT

Or give you one for 6 months

Your gonna get nothing for free lad

Think tbey have extended NCT certs till they have it sorted so would assume you are covered by insurance.

Only the cvrt is back on Monday, still no date for nct. They are getting the lifts repaired while this is going on so maybe that's why they are they are not opening yet.
