CV19 killed Horseflies?

Or is it because there's no cows in field beside me?

Still, even without that, I'd usually have encountered a few by now, trying to sack on me like a Feckenham, whilst out cutting the grass of an evening.

So far, I think I've only seen one.

Very strange but a welcome development, amongst the few lately

Anyone else noticed similar or is it just not their time yet?

Not sure I can identify a horsefly but iv noticed a lot more flies and bees and a lot more active birds around here in comparison to other years for definite.

Dunno about horse flies, but I do wonder what sort of affect it's going to have on microecosystems like in parks. No one out littering, stomping on the grass, throwing food in bins etc. I heard reports that urban birds have been seen eating rats since they have no chips to eat off the ground

I have a solution. Introduce Bolivian Tree Lizards to eat all the rats.

Once we are over run by lizards, introduce wave after wave of Chinese Needle Snakes to eat the lizards.

Combat the snakes by bringing in a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat. Once wintertime rolls around, the gorillas simply freeze to death.

Bit early in the year for horse flies it's only May.. Few more months and you'll see them

You probably know this but if stung by cleg rub a Doc leaf/juice on it..( Antihistamine) and it will help reduce sting.

No midges here tho...there a fecker!

Too early for them as others have said, although I did get a couple of bites during the last week mountain walking, they're raised like horsefly bites but not insanely itchy which I would expect.

Incidentally, my father used to call them "cuil", the Irish for fly

So I rather wear very short trousers when cutting the long grass and let the horsefly have a bite or two of my bare flesh rather than offering the ticks a crease of fabric to drop into and then latch onto.

Btw McCarty the more you sweat and stink the more attractive you're to cleggs.

It sounds like a conspiracy theory . Fly biology is obviously very different. There could be an environmental reason though I guess.. more natural fly predators, or less food or something

Horseflies can carry Lyme disease too.. I've done a study on them before.. Its unbelievable how they don't spread more blood Bourne diseases like hiv...I watched 1 land on my arm before very closely they have what looks like a tiny razor blade that they use to cut the skin that's what the initial pin prick is then they inject an anaesthetic into the wound so you can't feel it.. Fascinating stuff
