I'm thinking of buying a good bike for the road. Cycling around each week and all that, not a racing bike. Anyone have good recommendations?

Get a gravel bike, trust me you wont regret it.

Make sure it has tubeless tyres.

Hybrid. I've had Trek Giant Felt and all inbetween but the best I've used in the hybrid range is a giant roam. You'll pick up a brand new one for about €600. Google roam disc 3, should be this year's model. People tend not to sell them secind hand which is a good indicator of how good a bike it is for the price

Yes but you can get them to put levers on the bars as an option.

Honestly you wont regret it, you can anywhere on them, tough and fast never get punctures go on dirt tracks, brilliant in traffic.

You might also be able to avail of the Bike2work scheme through your workplace. Tax free bike.

If aren't comfortable with the drop handlebars on a racing bike

but still want a bit of speed, get yourself a hybrid bike and replace the heavy tyres with faster rolling 28c or 25c rubber. Just ensure that the bead seat diameter is the same (usually 622) on both.

You start with one bike and end up with several..

Carbon road, alu Road, hybrid, gravel, mountain and even a folding ebike..

But I would go the gravel as its ticks a load of boxes and will be lighter than the hybrid and a lot of them have a comfortable geometry and are made for spending long times on them.

Your local bike shop will help and let you try the different options.
