I've ran 2 marathons and multiple 5ks all sub 20mins,10k all sub 40 mins in bare feet ,running shoes don't make you go faster,Nike etc lead you to believe that but it's not true, bare feet are the way Bro!

Everyone is different and it depends on your feet. I have wide feet and asics run slim imo. I prefer Brooks or Nike but only certain models. You really need to try shoes or get your gait analysis done in a store. Since you can't do that I'd stick with brands you know when you order online.

Nike Vapourfly. But some say it’s unethical to use them. But that’s one hell of a shoe !

First, determine your feet type and pronation from the ASICS US site and then you could choose the brand...

..I always used Nike... gave ASICS a try and have stuck with them ever since...

5/10k is not a small distance and appropriate shoes can make a difference with the pressure/endurance the feet have to take in.. hope this helps and Goodluck.

Asics with gel soles always for me. They give you a bit more bounce and feel sturdy and light. You'll need to check if you have a neutral, pronator or supinator foot type in order to prevent injury but they should be able to do this test in the shop. Don't be fooled into buying those expensive insoles though, they don't really help. Mrs

For a moment there I forgot about this lockdown, silly me Google 'gait analysis' and you should be able to do the test at home. Otherwise, just get a neutral shoe.

Always go to a proper sports shop and try on a few different brands, every one's feet are different

I had been recommended Asics by a few running mates but when I tried them on they were too tight at the front

Ended up going for Nike and I'm on my 3rd pair now.

Always try on a few as I find big differences in even the new versions of the Nike ones I currently have.

I use asics keyano 28 and love then but the best thing to make you faster is to get out and train then train some more.

Were these marathons on the road? Youd wanna have fierce tough soles to attempt that. I dont think I'd have any skin left on me feet after that.

We got a pair of Saucony runners each a while ago and find them great (we’re going for a run pretty much every day seeing as there is fcuk all else to do). Find them really light and comfortable with very good support and would recommend them.

Had never heard of the brand before, but it seems they’re quite a good one. Got them from a shop called Runlogic in temple bar. Really sound Aussie guy there who did the whole gait thing with us and they’re what we ended up with.

Worth waiting for lockdown to end and get the gait test done. You’ll end up with the right runner regardless of brand

Nike are very pretty but that’s it. Good every day runner but not for running.

Asics kayanos the way to go. Best stability and support. Gotta mind you’re knees. There worth investing in a good pair for

Nimbus are a great shoe for long distance running, up to marathon distance

Running shoes come is three types.

* Neutral cushioned shoes for biomechanically efficient runners.

* Motion control shoes for over pronators, ie flexible feet that tend to roll inward excessively while running.

* Guidance shoes- for over supinatiors - feet that roll outwards, people with this issue tend to have very rigid highly arched feet that requires a strong lateral reinforced shoe with lots of cushioning.

High end running shoes like Brooks and New-balance come in half sizes and several widths regular width - D, Wide fit- 2E, Extra wide fit - 4E

I used to run a lot, but gave it up because I've seen lots of serious runners absolutely crippled with osteoarthritis, wear and tear on their joints from years of pounding the pavement.

The only running I do nowadays is, running away from a woman who wants a serious relationship

The sticks

Asics Kayano for me. I get gait analysis done once a year to make sure nothing has changed then go down to Asics shop in Kildare village and get last season version at about 60% of new season.

I get about 4mths out of each pair, tried Brooks in the past and they literally lasted me 6wks.

Important thing is regular gait analysis

it's not something i would even consider, it's dangerous and mental torture i would imagine. Imagine glass on roads or foreign objects etc. You would want to seriously enjoy it and be very tough like you say feet but mind also.
