Do people use these much anymore? I thought they were a thing of the past but I’ve seen them feature in a few pix, got me wondering how popular are they?

I've never used one and never will. I've already had a malignant mole removed years ago on my back that had never seen sunlight so I definitely wouldn't chance them. But I know the beauty salon I normally go to has one and plenty of people use it.

No legislation as far as I'm aware, but there should be - dangerous yokes.

Stick to the pale and interesting look or go for the tan in a can approach..

Irish skin just not built for using sunbeds

I wouldn’t chance using one and thought they had fallen out of favour but maybe they haven’t as much as I thought.

I'm sure there are people using them but it's not the safest way to get a tan nothing wrong with the old fashion way soaking up the sun plus its completely free

Lots of pics of people in them regularly on here, mostly UK, so they're definitely still in use.

Actually JustBo, curious as I have a mole where sun doesn't shine but has become a tad itchy past few days.

What prompted you to get yours looked at?

I had Doc look at it few years ago but apparently not a worry. Hasn't changed shape or colour. On belt area so can get agitated, I guess, with an expanding lockdown waist

I used them regularly years ago and in all fairness I did feel better having a tan

But as I've got older I more conscious of my skin ageing and care more about the fact they cause skin cancer

But when you use a sunbed you start becoming addicted to them

Now days I get a spray tan if I'm on a night out a decent salon will give a really natural spray tan

There's no such thing as a safe tan (except from a bottle) , it's skin damage. Particularly dangerous for Celtic skins, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in Ireland.

Completely agree Nobody ever believes me when I say that a tan is actually damaged skin All you have to do is look at older people who love the sun - their skin is like leather Fake tan all the way...... Mrs.

Nor me, tbh I think it looks silly on people who are clearly naturally very fair.

But sure, each to their own. I'll just wait for "pale and interesting" to come back in fashion

As to legislation, so far as I know, use by under 18s is prohibited, beyond that, we're all adults, free to smoke, drink, eat shite and do a million other things that are proven to be detrimental to our health. It's free choice.

Mine had darkened in colour and had raised edge on it so I got it looked at luckily. It had spread outwards luckily and not in so had to go back a couple of weeks after and get a bigger section of my skin taken off. The fact that it is itchy tho is a sign as well get it looked at as soon as you can x

Guilty as charged... I burn so bad in the sun and never get a colour... so yes I do use sunbeds when I get the chance..

You have people smoking drinking that's not good either...

I know the risks, but for me it's more then just darker skin

I tan rather well in the sun so never use them but we have a few shops close by which have been around for years.

I've used beds before going in holiday to help prevent skin damage/burns.

UV rays are necessary to build up menalin to protect your skin.

If you go 50 weeks of a year with no sunlight, then suddenly spend 2 weeks walking round shirtless getting blasted with high intensity rays, your skin is completely unprotected should you sweat, or swim and SPF washes off.

Before sun holidays, I think it's far safer to proactively expose yourself to UV rays a couple of times in a controlled environment, for like 5 minute intervals. Then when you are out in the sun all day, you're way less likely to get burned and damaged.

I'm not sure what that idiot does

I swear he gets those tanning injections, now they do send you orange

And with all his money you would think he could sort something better than a comb over

Some people suit naturally beautiful pale skin

I just happen to be dark eyed and dark hair, so suit a little colour

Well I did say it wasn't the safest way sure even the stuff in the bottle may not be safe if someone is allergic to the ingredients and yeah sitting out on a deck chair soaking up the sun rays isn't safe either

I stopped them along time ago after all of the negativity about them. I can't remember the year but it was all over the news at the time saying they are cancerous. It was enough to stop me even though I know the real rays of the sun can also be cancerous.

Yep which is the reason why I wouldn't recommend using these that's why I go with the natural way
