Why are doormen in belfast such out and out, annaly retentive, wankers?

Is it just us or do they suffer from small man/small dick syndrome?

Does this apply throughout the country as well?

My lesser half whilst at Uni did the door during "the bad tmes".

He agrees doormen now should be less aggresive, but acknowledges they will always be arrogant and pompous, making up for short comings elsewhere!

I'm an educationalist, as were my buddies, but we were "knocked back" from three different clubs simply because we "weren't regulars, etc.yada yada"!

We were dressed nicely, weren't d*unk and were hot as fook and horny to boot but still got chinned.......Wtf? Discuss as a nation!

I have a laugh with most doormen.... but maybe I don't go to very posh establishments where they're supposed to be arrogant lol

well i am a doorman, and i always find you only have an opinion on a doorman if you have done something wrong. and when you have done something wrong that is the only time you have a serious encounter with one. so to some it up there is always going to be someone who hates doormen

In a past life (when I was in college many many years ago) I used to be a doorman. God it was great! You could pull as a doorman when you would never pull inside with a bucket load of beer on board!

as a former doorman in Belfast, I can certainly confirm there are quite a few wankers out there on the doors, many who think they are hard men, some who dont, some who know they are.

generally I found as a rule of thumb, those who dont think they are hard, and those who KNOW they are, are usually the ones you can talk to,

Being a bouncer has changed from the 70's when all you needed was a big forehead and a shovel fist.

Today such things as tact, non verbal communications, conflict resolution, firmness, and above all, a sense of humour are required.

what you will find is that, statements like "regulars only", "we're full up love" and turning away a large group are regular weapons in the modern day "bouncers" armoury, when I worked the doors, I'd turn away groups of people, even if they were fine if I seen ONE person in that group was not in a fit and proper condition, its easier to turn away the whole group rather than single out one person (conflict avoidance).

As I previously said, there are wankers wannabe hardmen on the doors, hopefully the continuation of SIA licensing can them down.

If you remember anything from my post, then please remember these two nuggets of wisdom :

Bouncers deal with arseholes from the start of their shifts till the end, occassionally violence visits.

You only see a bouncer when you approach a door, the bouncer see's you walking up the street.

Lets please not use the term BOUNCER, its a throwback to bad days, lets use "Ejection Technician"

Remember the "Nanny state" we live in as well.

In my day if you had a group with an inebriated happy half asleep d*unk, or a group of girls with one underage kid with them you might let them in and park the offender in the corner to keep an eye on them.

Nowadays you wouldnt dear let a d*unk or a kid in and they get left out in the street. Often their "friends" will abandon them to the street. Not sure it makes the world any safer but its the way we have become

I lived in Edinburgh for a while and the difference between there and Belfast doormen is incredible.

In Edinburgh, when the lights go up and the music ends, they let you finish up and grab your stuff in your own time, whereas Belfast, in the microsecond the lights go up you're ushered out the door no matter what you're doing, and screamed at in the face if you don't move fast enough for them. It's insane.

Had a doorman just before Xmas tell me I wasn't allowed into the bar because I had a lip piercing and "it was against health and safety". Wtf??

I will say there are a few doormen around that are absolute gents and are decent to chat to, but mostly it's all "get in or get out" and nothing else.

Also because I look young for my age I'm always treated with suspicion even when I have legal ID.

people in general are wankers and"cunts" evrywhere not just doormen granted some doormen are i know a lot some are some are gr8 guys like my hubby, i think it is very unfair and stupid of anyone to to generalise and pigeon hole just because you had a bad experiance with 1 or 2!!!!

What clubs had these useless doormen so we can compare notes?

I've heard some terrible things said about doormen only to find the opposite true when I've been to their bar

the sia has made it worse cos the guys on doors now only have to get a licence ie pay to be somethin that used to take a long time to get into and they are the ones that would do it for free because of their egos and it is ego that is the problem

i am a doorman in blackpool and its a hard job most of the time. i try my best but doorman cant keep everyone happy and have to make quick judgement, there are a few doorman that do give doorman a bad name n think there something that they are not. this happens in all jobs and having to deal with abuse most of the shift u do get tired of listenin to people windin about small little things. i use to live in belfast n i never had any problem with the door man over there.
