what is the general rule for people who add you as a friend but don't mail you or reply? Is it a case of waiting for them to make contact when they want you?

We personally check out the profile. It is usually just a pic collector who hasn't got any photos of their own.

If in doubt, just send a message asking for a facepic before accepting.

I never accept random friendship requests, I am even wary of accepting from people I have exchange a couple of messages with, done that in the past and they never chat again so pointless in the first place
