Hi.

I am a keen parkrunner and my home run is Cardiff.

Now and then I do get some parkrun tourism in.

Are there any peeps who may be interested in some tourism and meets / hook ups along the way

Cheers

No sexual acts, but very social. A lot of people go to a cafe afterwards.

Plus lots of lycra.

Harrogate

I live near Harrogate / Leeds but regularly come across to the Bridlington / Sewerby one for a nice change, as I did yesterday. The town itself is pretty down on its luck but the parkrun is actually one of the most picturesque out there - running along the clifftop beside the sea and then through the gardens of a stately home - thoroughly recommend it in all seasons. Would love to have a local social with somebody else whilst over this way.

"Stupid question what is parkrun tourism "
It's a unique way of proving that the good idea of jogging round your local park can be turned into environmentally unsustainable counsumerism by twenty first century trainspotters....

Or maybe not. ParkRun is a really well funded way of getting people jogging that involves local runs in parks; some peope then set themselves a goal of doing as many of these runs as possible, travelling the country to do so. I'm sure they believe that's a good and healthy thing to do...

"Anyone running tomorrow? "

Yeah I will be. Does it feel right too? I’m not sure. Tough decisions.

It's outdoors so i think any risk is minimal. I also think it's all being over hyped by the media though...

Great idea!

I'm setting up a new event in Cornwall at the moment. Imagine fab and Parkrun joining for better health

Parkrun will be announcing a national shut down soon. Got the message from our local Event Director this morning.

Your ED is misinformed, no announcement has been made to teams yet.

As soon as gatherings of 500 or more are banned it’s inevitable as closing one PR that has 500 or more will push up others nearby. Oh, and I think you’ll find I said “will be announced soon” not “have announced” *sigh so many wanting to negatively jump on others rather than take on board what was actually said.

I'll miss the social side. If I'm running on my own, I have a nice 5k route starting and finishing at home.

On the plus side, when we can congregate again, some of the waterlogged and damaged courses will have had a chance to dry out and recover.

In fairness what you said, as already pointed out, was little more than speculation. And while it seems inevitable that will be the case no announcement has been made and I doubt any RD would actually be pre-empting the announcement

Honestly if people do this it will massively piss off the landowners whose permission is vital for parkrun

But most are in public parks, or National trust, or forestry commission.

I can think of a couple I've visited that are on "private" land (sports clubs, racecourses) but hopefully people will be sensible.

You do realise that those public parks are owned by a council who authorise events? That the national trust and forrestry commission give permission for events on their land? And that they can withdraw it just as easy as a private landowner. And will be mightily pissed off at people ignoring that events are cancelled and turning up anyway

Unless parks and other public places are declared closed, it's none of their business if I decide to go for a run on my own.

I agree that if a mob turned up at nine am on a Saturday, it might be a problem, but as long as I'm not wearing a mile stone t-shirt, how would they know who is jogging generally on a Sunday afternoon or Wednesday evening against people freedom running alone on a course.

.

Speculation based on communication from PR HQ about the need to consider a corporate response and linking it to issues with just closing one PR and pushing up numbers in others. I’m pretty sure all RDs are considering and discussing. Hence the conversation this morning.

If you chose to do a freedom run in a public park with even 20 or 30 runners no one can stop you, or I think realistically would care. Parkrun corporately just won't have the systems in place to support and therefore it won’t be under their control or responsibility. Therefore their liability is managed. Cancelling parkruns nationally is about liability as well as altruism. If cancelled, therefore not timed or counted against your PR tally, most will just run the streets.
