On a scale of one to five (with 1 being least and 5 being most) how important is getting the right username?

And what do people find are the most attractive characteristics of a good username?

Is there any aspect of or particular usernames that turn you off and why?

By the way, if the first examples of turns offs is AwesomeGuy then let me just say haha very funny, unlucky though I beat you to it lol. Sarcasm eh, it's the lowest form of witt, bloody funny though init. Right then I shall stop twatting on, all serious responses and of course some funny bants are welcome. Looking forward to see what you all think. TIA x

OP I don't think there is any such thing as the right kind of username but there is definitely the wrong kind that will turn off a lot of people. Often anything that alludes to 50 shades of shite puts people off. As can stuff like "lick for hours", "pussy punisher", drugs references such as "420" etc.

Your username wouldn't put me off.

Sometimes U.K

Using your scale of importance of 1 to 5, for me I would say it’s at least 4 with a name that is decent and not too crude (preferably not at all crude)

A bad user name can put people off and an original one can make you think that person has something about them but in reality its the person that seals the deal not the user name.

They're the first thing we see, so yeah, first impressions are important.

I blocked a guy yesterday because of his username. It was disgusting & now I don't have to see him in updates

Usernames that include body parts & sex acts turn me off. Names that include a string of numbers & the city name, make me

Funny ones stand out in a good way, they make me want to read the profile.

I chose my username as it reflects what I am.

It isn't popular by any stretch of the imagination but I'm not here to pretend to be something I'm not.

However, it is a public facade to detract from the fact I'm quite vunerable and easily hurt. I have fallen for people on here in the past and it hurts that they don't feel the same way about me. So I reinvented myself as Selfish Fucker as a way of taking control of my destiny.

I have had some lovely messages about my profile and have made some great friends. But I know that my username is self sabotaging and put off far more people than it attracts.

I'm oversharing aren't I

I agree crude ones just make one cringe and dot; underscores etc.

Or same name as others with mountains of extra numbers 123455678910 11 etc.no imagination as effort.

.But then same goes for unimaginative profile pictures( cocks, Tunnels in ones face) or even not one...

Some usernames are really off putting, usually very crude or aggressive sounding. Others just don't stand out as they're so similar to so many others and you risk getting lost in the crowd. If you have to start adding numbers it's probably too common.

I don't think a good username matters, but avoiding a bad one does. As others have said, 50 shades, anything crude, anything violent is a no. Also anything too self congratulatory. I also occasionally see what I suspect are real names, and that seems foolish.

Usernames are important, so are the pictures and the profile notes about yourself. Ours are hints of what we are. Trim is his nickname and eski is because I'm eski as in Eskimo. I'm not an Eskimo but from Iceland and I have many fond memories of building iglues growing up and husky sledging with my sister's husband who does this for a living. Hence eski has become my nickname ... Mind you my other half (trim) calls me smurf as I'm only 5ft4

Anyhow ... I think that choosing a fun approachable name is important not because the name it self is important but a badly chosen username is a put off for some.

I might be tipsy so take what I say with a pinch of salt and pepper. Xoxo eski
