No thank you

Here and There

What is the preferred way to let someone know that you are not interested?

I’ve a reasonably new profile, which I understand is attractive to some so I get a lot of messages. I’ve tried a polite ‘no thank you’ or similar and also just deleting without responding but I seem to be getting loads shitty, bent out of shape responses.

Am I doing this wrong? I seem to spend more time defending my position to people I’m not interested in than chatting to anyone I am.

Anyone got any tried and tested ways to avoid this kind of thing?

A No thanks is often followed by the "but why" reply and pestering. Its a can of worms replying with a negative response some complain you have even replied of not interested.

Delete without reply means no thank you (replying means they're outside any message filters you choose to apply in future). Bent out of shape means they're jerks who haven't read the rules and you should block them.

It can be tough going here, particularly in the fresh meat stage. Just delete if you're not interested, block (and possibly also report) anything nasty or abusive, and work out what works for you. Good luck.

If they respond to your response with anything more that a polite "ok thanks good luck in your search" type message then block them

Mark it unread and then block. It winds them up a treat.

In all seriousness, being nice gets you nowhere. Block single guys and become the hunter, not the hunted.

You don't have to defend yourself.

If you say no thanks and they ask why just block.

You need to be tough

There’s a strong chance I’m being far too polite.

If you delete the message and don't reply, then that's pretty simple to understand!! It's a no thank you.

"There’s a strong chance I’m being far too polite. "

Yep. No need to be rude of course but if a polite no thanks is met with anything but a polite acceptance just delete. If they're abusive, report.

I just don't reply anymore for this reason. For every guy who takes well and moves on there's 10 that don't
