Hi can anyone help? I read on a lot of profiles that one line messages like “hi how are you” are no goodcan anyone help on a good first message

Bear in mind that most ladies will read a profile and check out the photos before opening a message. If the profile/photos hold no appeal then many will delete the message unread. I’m not saying anything about your profile as you didn’t ask for input

Better than the 5 random words you had when I first looked but tells me almost nothing about what you can offer I’m afraid Lose the pointless disclaimer. Have a browse in the forums as there are plenty of advice threads. You might also want to check out the profiles of some men to see what they write. Good luck.

I'd qualify that somewhat. Women get a lot of compliments on here. Make sure any compliment doesn't ring hollow, and back it up with other things. Yet another declaration that I'm Venus herself is boring. (first world problems!)

Usually all three, for me personally, but I weigh photos lower (looks matter less to me, it's more of a deal or even tie breaker for me). Sometimes I'll reply to a great message without reading the profile.

I reply back if the person has clearly read my profile, seems interested in me as a person (a bit at least), sparks my interest, and I'm not at that point overwhelmed with the rest of what's in my inbox or potentially being organised. That's perhaps not the most helpful answer, but it's the truth. (for me, obviously all people are different)

Oh, and re compliments... I'd also add another way in which they're not enough. I regularly get messages telling me how wonderful I am which appear genuine, are unique, and aren't creepy... but they fail to say anything about what they have to offer me. I might be their version of God's gift (I doubt it), and that's very nice, but I want to know what I'm getting out of this too, you know?

Your profile is a string of cliches - I don't bite, life's too short etc followed up with a two line disclaimer. I have no idea what you're into, what you enjoy and why we might have fun together.
