Not for me button

On the reply to message page there is a mark unread button and a delete button. Can a 'not for me' button be added?

It would then be easy to actually respond to the people who are not for you.

I know single women get 100's of messages. As a man looking for them it would be nice to get a response that categorically states their position. That way i don't have loads of messages hanging around in the out box awaiting a response.

It's a good idea. And had been mentioned many times before but sadly hadn't been implemented.

With regards to the outbox, just delete them all that way you're not watching them wondering.

What we do is make a note on their profile using the notes feature that we messaged them and then delete the sent message. If they get back to us then great if not oh well plenty more profiles to message.

You're assuming someone's opened the messages, not just looked at the profile and decided to delete without reading

I would use the function especially if it stop someone responding without having to have 1000's on my block list

Not sure how many others would though

Currently any sort of responding means changes to filters are useless later.

Delete your sent box then u wouldn't have to look at them to see if they had been read.

Also, would an inbox full of 'not for me' replies be better then no replies? I imagine after a while lots of 'not for me' would knock a person confidence. Just delete sent messages and if you get a reply it will be a surprise

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

The admin tried it once. They got complaints that it was impersonal.

If they don't reply, they're not interested...that pretty much categorical to me...

While I agree that it may be seen as impersonal I think the OP sees it as less impersonal than deleting or ignoring his messages?

It takes no more/less effort to click the "not for me" button than it would to click the "delete" button.

it would only work if it deleted the message and then blocked the sender at the same time...otherwise it gives the opportunity for further dialogue that is unwanted. I think you'd still get the 'but why' responses to it that rejection messages get now.

Not always the case though may have got caught in a bulk delete etc. people run their inboxes in different ways.

At least with a no thanks button they would no for sure that the message was opened and read, plus for those non site supporters who can't see or forgotten who they've messaged it would stop them sending repeated messages.

I don't see the point. No reply = not interested. How is an automated reply any nicer?

I don't want to login, see I've got a bunch of messages only to find they're all auto replies.

The answer is for people sending messages to get over themselves and realise they aren't owed anything in return. It's not a gift or a service being provided.

I think you're asking for something that gives the sender a little more certainty, and I have some sympathy for the idea. The problem is, many would still complain that they had been treated unfairly or with rudeness, just as they do when their messages are ignore or deleted, or when their profiles are blocked. And of course there's no certainty that people who don't usually respond to messages would even use the new button.

I sometimes think it would be less frustrating for many users if there was no 'Sent Messages' feature to look at - too many linger over the messages they've sent, trying to interpret what the recipients are thinking.
