"Educate me, what’s greenlaning? " Driving roads that are not tarmacked. Might be a rough track normally used by the farmer, might be across fields, or an ancient track. It's still a road, need to be licensed and insured etc. It can be challenging, sometimes to drive, sometimes to find. It's not off-roading which is also fun, but the trouble is when idiots can't tell the difference. Off roading is usually when you are on a site which has been designed to test your vehicle (and the driver) Like a really muddy skateboard park. Last time I did it, was at a disused quarry.

"One day I’m going to come south and explore Salisbury Plain. " Definitely have a look at the Fosse Way too, I enjoyed it more than SPTA as it's always available. Salisbury Plain can be closed down if the military are using it, and it's quite restrictive on where you can / can't go.

"I miss it to the best advice I was given when I was training for my off road qualification keep your thumbs out of the steering wheel.." I've never driven anywhere, on or off road, with my thumbs inside the wheel, ever since I heard a road safety lecturer describing how they can get dislocated even from a minor shunt. Also like to keep both hands on the wheel (thumbs safely parked) unless there is a very good reason not to. Much better and balanced control, ready for the unexpected.
