What does a wink convey? Why do you wink? ...are you a winker?

I must confess it seems odd when someone winks you and then doesnt respond to anyting you send back!

As a profile we never respond to winks and never send winks but lots of people seem to like using them.

Winks are great to gut down on incoming mail. They can be easily ignored or deleted and there is no need to respond so they have a purpose.

This is our approach, too. It’s a way to show some interest in a profile that has caught your eye.

If the original ‘winker’ doesn’t respond to our wink or message back, we would assume they have changed their mind. Perhaps one partner has winked, but later the other partner isn’t keen. Frustrating, but it happens.

We wink to show interest, if they wink back we see that as them returning the interest so we message, and that tends to be how it works in return also.

Think of it like an inviting look across a bar

I see it as a flirty way of saying I like what I see. If both wink, great.

We both like what we see, that's all..... End of.

I see nor have no ulterior motive, if it instigates contact then fine but I don't read any more into it than an appreciation of a profile.

Some overthink it, it's a wink!

Most people wink to show potential interest and then people respond or don't and that is all good. The reason I posted this in the first place was exasperation because people send a wink and then don't respond to anything! So why bother in the first place?

If i wink at someone it means that something has piqued my interest. A simple thank you from the recipient to at least acknowledge it is sufficient for me. I do the same whenever someone winks at me. It's just good manners, and common courtesy.

I'm not going to lie here. Sometimes I wink at someone who I believe to be interesting. Sometimes I get a wink back and we start messaging to find out I'm not there type. Other times I wink and forget i winked someone. Or no response.

I've received a few winks but I tend not use it as an interest indicator ...I prefer to fabphoto or msg directly although it does sting slightly when ma (tbfair ...unsolicited!) appreciations are ignored/discarded ...but thats the way the chocolate melts/cookie krumbles is it not?
