Over the last few months we have seen in the updates section that xyz has accepted your friend request but no such request has been sent by us. Having a look at our friends list then reveals that there are many profiles who we are friends with that we have no knowledge of. It would appear that this site is randomly generating these connections. At first we wrote this off as maybe too many glasses of wine but having both not been on the site for a few days we had another last night so know it’s definitely not us sending or accepting these invites! Interestingly the profiles match our criteria

Has anyone else noticed similar?

Had this once recently.

It was someone I had been friends with but I then removed as we hadn't spoken for months.

I then got a notification he had accepted my request and he was back ony list. Obviously I hadn't sent him one as I had just removed him.

I have sent friend requests and winks many times before now and not known about it, a bad case of fat fingers
