Disappearing messages

I’ve been chatting to someone and met him in person for a social today. However tonight I noticed our messages, both sent & received, have disappeared and he’s not in my friends list or coming up on searches.

I’m presuming this means he’s deleted his account but wouldn’t the messages still show but say something like user had left the site?

If he's deleted his account the site now deletes all his messages too. So yes, he's left the site
