Now we have silver site support status, we have been enjoying the use of threads within messages, but we have noticed that older threads seem to disappear/be deleted. Is this a problem with the site, or just standard practice as we like to keep a record of older conversations

Save messages that you want to guarantee to be available. Old messages (that form part of PM threads) are sometimes removed by the system automatically. We'd love to keep all mail all the time but we have 500k messages sent each day and it is a huge resource on our servers, to keep a record of as many as we'd like

Does that mean we would have to keep ALL messages for each particular thread then?

Two options are to save the message or not delete the original. These slow down how agressive "system" is at removing messages.

It's not an ideal situation. We'll review how quickly messages are removed to try and improve this.
