Unread but no mail

Has anyone else seen a glitch where notifications display unread messages but theres nothing in the inbox. When checking messages chain from sent the unread messages are there. The email chains are also disappearing from inbox.

Already sent to site support but so far no support, any known quick fixes for this quirk?

Have you tried swapping back to the old style mail, that sometimes helps find the rogue message.
