Blocked from sending a message

I’ve recently had a notification that my use of the messages has been blocked. I befit said that I was trying to send through a website or similar wording, I wasn’t.

Question: how long does this block last and is there a maximum amount of characters per single message?

As the pop up says when it happens, around two hours. I don't think there is a limit of characters
