How do I set up my messages soo that they come through as a notification on my phone? Keep missing out on messages

If you're on android, at the bottom of the fab home screen is a green bar that says "New. Get notifications on your android phone". Press it and then the "enable push messages" button that comes up.

Doesn't work on Apple though.
