Not that we're aware of, you can reply to emails they've sent thats in your inbox but you cant send a new email.

I don't think you can even reply to their messages anymore. You used to be able to before the change of server, but I tried the other day and I couldn't...

People hide their profile for all sorts of reasons, so we're speaking only for ourselves.

Ours is currently hidden because all our time, energy and finances are currently devoted by necessity to family and domestic matters (this is a common enough reason) i.e. we are simply not in a position to play at present, so our "vital statistics", predilictions etc. are irrelevant and academic for the time being, especially as concerns strangers.

This doesn't necessarily mean that we don't enjoy exchanging some online, tongue-in-cheek raunchy banter and innuendo, especially with people we already know, in chat. We realise that some users regard adult dating / swing site chatrooms as nothing more than pickup media, but there's a clue in the title - i.e. "chat", not "sex supermarket where you load up your trolley with peeps you fancy shagging before proceeding to the checkout".

The block on people being able to send mail to a suspended profile is that one is thus relieved from being put in a position of being constant apologists having to put off / brush off new expressions of interest. At the risk of stating the obvious, people hide their profiles because they're taking time out from play - so what's the point of messaging them then?

People we've already met and consider friends also generally have alternative means of contacting us, such as e-mail addresses and phone numbers. Additionally, they already know what we look like and have no need of profile pics.

What exactly, by hiding our profile, are we depriving anyone of on a swing site? A potential shag? Pleeze! We're "original members", have been on this site virtually since its inception and have actively contributed to what it is today, so we really don't feel any need to justify popping into chat with a hidden profile.

Just speaking for us here, in response to previous message. IF you came into chat, we wouldn't know who you were, if you were young, old, how long you had been on the site, or if we had any similar interests to us. How is it possible for new members such as ourselves, to form friendships or not, with people we cannot find anything about. Understand the reasoning behind hidden profiles, but it would make life alot easier on newbies, and save hidden profile members getting 100's of questions asked of them.

In reply to stickysheets:

Somewhat confused by your posting - the first two questions you pose are effectively comprehensively answered by our posting. Perhaps a paraphrase?

Nobody has the "right" to view profile details at their own absolute convenience - that's what privacy protection is all about, and the protective measures are rightly and fairly under the control of the authors of the profile. One day you yourselves may well want to avail yourselves of this facility.

There is no real difference between someone perusing a profile contrary to the wishes of the users who posted the profile, and someone who browses the site for the purposes of data / pic collection - purposes for which the authors of the profile never intended it. Sorry to be so blunt, but there it is.

We were all newbies once - and, honestly, what represents the bigger waste of a newbie's time and effort? A profile that is hidden, which effectively says "there's nil point in your approaching us at this time", or a profile that remains "active" even though the owners aren't meeting at present and will probably never reply to your mails, leaving you wondering where you're "going wrong"?

As regards being inundated with questions in chat - most flurries of questions come from users who can't be bothered to read an open profile anyway. Considerate, experienced users should recognise that a hidden profile signals that questioning isn't appropriate at that time. That leaves newbies - who can ask us any questions they want, and will generally get answers - some kind and generous peeps gave us a lot of pointers when we first started out, so it's only fair. But no-one has the absolute right to any answer - wouldn't get e.g. my mother's maiden name or my National Insurance No - for obvious reasons - for example.

That's not to say that some chatters aren't so cliquey you couldn't separate them with a crowbar, but that's just peeps being so far up their own arses they're tickling their own tonsils. Society is sadly replete with such arseholes; why would you expect an online "community" to be anything other than a microcosm of wider society?

Not trying to "put anyone in their place" - forums are a medium for full and frank exchange of views, which will not always accord - if they did, there'd be no debate and no consequent progress.
