I noticed that a message thread I have kept from someone who's currently taking a break from the site contains only my messages and the ones he sent seem to have disappeared. His profile is still active and I can see all 6 of the messages I've sent him but his responses don't show in the thread. Any ideas why?

If someone is off the site for a while, to try and keep the message base within reasonable limits, system removes messages (unless they have been placed into your saved folder, in which case they are preserved).

This is important because hundreds of thousands of messages are exchanged every day and storage/management/backup costs and performance are one of our biggest problems.
