Am probably being thick - but can someone please tell me wher I need to go & what to do to POST a friends update??

A friends update is what is sent to friends when you update your Status. There is a bit in the top right hand corner of the screen which reads Your current ststus. If you click the mouse curser over it and follow the instructions - you should be fine.
