Is it possible to receive a message from somebody who's not showing on your visitors list? Something like this just happened. Checked all possible options but still no clue whatsoever. Is there a version for a device or OS that allows this? And if not, what shall we make of this?

There is an option to not show as having looked at a profile. I don't know if it's only available to site supporters or not but that would explain your message

site supporters have the option not to show when looking at profiles i believe
