Username unavailable - please advise

Need to know basis

My original username was Frenchbambi (without the x). I changed it at Xmas and now I cannot go back to it without adding the X.

Admin, please remove the X from my username as I know there is only 1 frenchbambi on site. If this is not possible I would appreciate a PM to explain the reason why.

PS - It won't come up in a search if they have hidden their profile, for example

If you cant choose the name, then there is already someone else with the profile name now.

Just because they dont come up on a search, doesn't mean they dont exist, as the profile may be hidden.

Maybe someone took the name after you left it?

He's right... there's someone with your old username, but the profile is hidden.

If you look at your own profile and delete the x at the end of your name in the address bar you'll see.

I am suspicious as to that person's reasons for using my username and blocking me. Others on this thread can see the username/profile and I can't. A hidden profile cannot been Viewed but it can be found unless the person has blocked you.

It depends on how you are trying to find it - did you try the suggestion above?

You wont find it in a search when hidden...

Look at anyones profile and in the address bar at the top change the username at the end of the web address to 'frenchbambi'. You'll see it as a hidden profile (or if indeed they have blocked you) then

Actually it was perfectly timed, as the 'woman' created an account, took that specific user name, but then never logged on again.

Given that it's 2 months since that profile was logged into how did she get that user name when the original and above french bambi had it!!!!!

Yes It shows on my block list.

I guess this puts an end to changing our user names for christmas and challenges.

many people who changed their name for xmas have had similar problems, its pretty obvious, especially when you are a regular contributor to the forums, your old name will be on many peoples friends lists, and someone has decided to benefit from your past contributions.

There's 2 ...

One with a space between the 2 words and one without.

The one without a space (which I think was how bambi had hers) last logged on 3 weeks ago. I'm assuming this is the one that has taken the name.

Main reason why I have never changed mine for xmas etc

Then they are in for a shock, it doesn't work like that. The links leads to our proper french's account, as she didn't leave the site, just changed her name.

Her forum posts and veri's and what not link back to her account. Even if she changes her name to updowninout, it changes on the site and links to her profile.

Lesson to be learnt, username is for life, not just for Christmas.

If one values one's username, then don't change it as one may not be able to get it back!

This has been discussed at length in the past. Majority of those who participated in seasonal name changes do not mind not being able to go back to their exact previous usernames.

You can check if any username is available this way, and see if it is hidden or if they are blocking you.

Assuming it wasn't taken by someone we know, with the sole intent of stopping the real french bambi taking it back and that account will be logged into again.... stranger things have happened I suppose.

I am not sure what that has to do with my post.

Either way, a name isn't soley yours unless you are using it on your profile. If the username you want has gone, it means you need to pick another.

Simplydelicious but I can access it or find in search however if u go on an old veri of some1 it comes up

its still there.. last active 4 months ago

use the link we posted earlier in the thread, remove our username and replace with the other username, you will then find it

Im no expert but wouldn't trying to access it on sign in then clicking forgotten password be better than trying to view it from another account?

Or contact admin for a password reset or something.
