Stopping a mail from sending

Is it possible to stop/delete a mail you have sent but hasnt yet been read by the recipient.

i.e if you're mailing someone back and forth and the conversation gets out of synch, can you stop a typed and 'sent' mail from going if it's now out of date/off topic etc?

Just wondered...
