Unable to receive mail

It seems as though I’m not able to receive new mail and it’s putting people off as it comes up saying “you’re unable to message this person. Some have resorted to winks which lets me know they’re interested so I message and then were able to talk.

Anyway I can fix this? My filters are set correctly (the people who said they could message should have been able to with the filters)

As far as I know if you get that message the profile will have blocked you or have filters set so that you can't message. I suggest that if they've winked you they have probably lifted their filter or their block so you can message.

OP is talking about people not being able to message him not him sending messages.

You can message yourself to test your inbox. Some profiles use filters to restrict who can message them.
