Despite clicking 'delete thread' you can retrieve as messages still show at top of viewed profile. How to get rid of all messages?

You can't.

What you see at the top of the profile is just the start of any previous message sent.

Might just be me....but if you've sent someone a message then why do you need to erase all trace of it?

If you no longer want to communicate with someone and don't want them to be able to see that same message detail when they click on your profile, there's always the option to block them.
