We have attempted to verify a few people we have met but according to them they haven't received the verifications. Does it simply take time?

She means, have you used the same connection as the people you are trying to verify? I.e. The same computer, mobile phone? If so, i'm afraid you won't be able to verify!

The verification goes to them immediately.

From FAQ:Verifications we try to leave for another user aren't being saved

If you're trying to verify another account that you have created yourself or you're trying to verify someone who is using the same PC as yourself, or you're on the same internet connection, then the verification won't be recorded. We do this to stop people creating fake accounts and verifying them themselves.

The person getting the verification needs to go to Manage Verifications and select 'display on profile'
