Disappearing winks

Every so often I get a notification on my home screen that I have a new wink, but if I click on it it just says "no new winks".

Am I doing something wrong? Or are phantom winks a thing? Or are the sender's deleting them ?

Sender can't delete a wink once sent so they might have left the site or its a bug. Send yourself one see what happens
