Messages disappearing

Tonight I’ve had 2 established chats (via sending messages) disappear. Does that mean they changed their mind and blocked me?

I had thought being blocked would mean I couldn’t message them or view their profile, whereas these two exchanges have entirely disappeared along with any sign the profiles exist at all
