I want to disable my account for a while but not completely delete it. Is there a way to do this?

You can hide your profile. Go to privacy settings and it's second option down

People will still be able to mail you so set your filters to prevent that if you don't want to receive messages

I assumed it was only people who have already messaged but no new where haven't received any once hidden

No anyone can message unless tou have filters on, if you post in the forums people can clicknon ir profile they will see its hidden but still have option to message
