can I get back deleted messages

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows as a site supporter is there a way to get back previously deleted messages? or is it a case of once they are gone their gone?

i'm afraid that if you have deleted them, they are gone.

Thanks, what a shame was hoping they would be able to be retrieved especially as when I click on the persons profile it tells me when they and I last messaged each other.
