i am getting fed up with update delays... if you do a "browse" and it shows "online now"...So that is good i will message that person. Then you type your message to that person. That takes say 2 mins to type and press send. The system then updates with "online 10 minutes ago".

FFS sort this out it makes messaging very difficult and annoying!! you keep missing peeps!!!!! isnt that what this site is built to do message in real time?

What's wrong with just leaving the message there, for when they are next online??? Last time I checked, this was not an instant messaging service.

"isnt that what this site is built to do message in real time? "

Nope.

It's a means of contacting people. Not a live chat service.

You can quite easily send a message whether someone is online or not. And whether they're online or not it doesn't guarantee that they'll ever read it, reply to it or that anything will come from you messaging. Many will view a profile before reading a message and if they don't like what they see they'll hit delete without opening it and possibly even block.

The site is not going to change this. Maybe change your expectations a little.

There's no rush.

If you message while women ate online you have a better chance of getting your message read as it will be at the top of their inbox and not 100th in a list of messages.

Unless many men subscribe to that notion in which case it won't be at the top for long, will it.

If you expect women to pounce on a message the second it arrives you'll be disappointed.

They browse. They post in the forums. They go in chat rooms. They cam. They do many, many thing other than sit and constantly refresh their inbox looking for the next message from a guy in a hurry for a response.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

You've confused messages and chatrooms.

Think of messages like emails, and chatrooms like Whatsapp groups - one is more immediate than the other.

True, but having it at the top while they ARE online is preferable to just after.

I understand this frustration, although it is reduced since the concept of threaded messages was introduced.

But if someone is getting so many messages that OP isn't going to stand out, then OP needs to find a way to change that...
