Is there a way to display née messages at the top of the page rather than the bottom, just have original post at the top then newest message underneath and so on, be much easier to navigate

Yes it would. At what point, unless not at all (since it is entirely voluntary), would they begin posting under their married name, and how would we know that they are the same person?

People generally read from top to bottom so you'd get the answer to some posts before you knew the question!

Or you'd need to scroll from the bottom to top to get the timeline of the thread.

So think it works best as it is. imho
