Phantom Friend Updates

I've recently noticed some friends updates showing as posted 'x' amount of minutes ago with no friends update showing. None of my friends had been on during the period since it was posted either.

If it is a previous friend that has hidden their profile then why can't I remove them from seeing my updates as well?
