sometimes when i send a message......... i read a profile and its says "online now".. i write a message, press send, and it updates to say off line "5 minutes" ago. is there any way on the writing the message box we can see if the person is actually online. As you know its difficult to get messages read if a person isnt online.

The site seems very slow at updating about when someone is online.

Usually it takes about 5 minutes to change after logging off.

The site isn't very accurate for online times and if users are on via mobile, it can show that they're online long after they have left. Most people don't log out, they just move on to something different. It can help a little, if people try to stalk and try to watch your every move.

It's partly why it's useful to set realistic expectations, including not assuming that others will see or respond to messages in any specific time frame etc, if at all.
