Can people still see your messages if you delete them before they have read them?

Once its sent its sent it will only disappear if you delete your profile

Once you have sent a message it will be delivered and sit in the other persons inbox until they delete it, or you delete your profile.

If someone messages you but then for some reason all the messaged have disappeared Inc those you sent back is this because the person has left the site? And all messages auto delete?
